Babysitter cost for over night? Updated post 35/43

Just a bit of food for thought...
You basically are running a daycare (for one) and in MD that can become a problem if someone reports you. You also need to be careful because if he were to get hurt at your home, you could have problems with your homeowners insurance policy paying for his injury if they find out you are being compensated for watching him (basically you need a daycare providers addedum added to your regular policy). I really am not saying this to stir the pot but just to be honest that you really need to think about this. That is why I would NOT recommend putting anything financial in writing since you are not a licensed daycare. Putting it in writing could truly come back to bite you in butt so to speak. Babysitting in someone else's home is clearly different than them bringing him to your home and if it is one a regular basis, it will be viewed as 'daycare' (esp during a work day).
I am sorry that it did not go well between you and the Gmother. :sad1: It sounds very much like the Gmother needs to seek early intervention for this child. There are programs here in MD for him. But the bad part is most of the programs happen during regular working hours. So chances are whoever has him between 9 and 5 is going to be responsible for getting him to the appropriate program. I wish both you and this little boy well. But as a previous poster stated, you can't get too emotionally invested in this child. Best of luck to both of you. :goodvibes

Oh and btw... I clearly think you are charging too little and the Gmother knows it. She is trying to take advantage. I don't understand for the life of me why people want to short-change the person taking care of their most precious possession?! :sad2:

I have thought about this and tried to find info about MD online. When I researched, I found that you can watch one child in your home and not have a licence. Is this not correct? I also have an extra umbrella insurance policy for my home. If I continue to keep him, I will call and see if it covers this as well.

Where we live, the system is on over load. My daughter has been on a waiting list for speech therapy since last October. It is insane. There are not enough therapist for our area.

I actually feel sorry for the little boy. I could never have left my DD overnight, can't grandma watch him then?

He is living with his grandma who is 63 and is not in the best health. His aunt is 50 and has no children and doesn't want any. She does love him but is clueless about raising a child. It seems like he is a doll baby to them. His great grandfather was in the hospital so they wanted me to watch him. In march, grandma is getting her 2nd knee replaced and will be unable to watch him for 6wks. The aunt will have him but has a full time job and wanted me to keep him at least 3 nights during the 6wks and not sure how many more.

I talked to the aunt yesterday again. She said she feels like 15/20 is better then nothing and didn't understand. I just told her I would take the nothing. I also have decided no more extras. I have done his hair cuts for free and also gave grandma $10 of her color service because I felt bad. It seems as if the nicer I am the more people expect from me. So I am gonna suck it up and today they will both be informed of my charges and that the extras will stop.

Now I understand why day cares have those contracts with all those crazy rules! I am learning the hard way. I want to thank everyone who posted because you helped me to see that I was not being unreasonable. Now If I can just figure out how to stop them from making me feel guilty I will be in good shape!
