When I was on the board last week, I read that someone was talking about getting there baby's first haircut at the barber shop on Main Street. I think this would be a great idea. My son will be 13 mths when we go and should need a haircut by then. My questions are, where on Main Street is it? and
can you make an appointment or is it first come first serve? Do they give them a certificate for first haircuts?

The barbershop is near the Fire Dept. on the left of the square when you enter. It is first come first serve so if you don't want a long wait it is best to do that first. When we were there however it was not open at the same time the park opened but one hour later so we ended up waiting an hour toward the front of the park for the barber shop to open. They do a special 1st haircut thing and the kids get a certificate and a pair of mouse ears that say 1st haircut...it is really something cute. DS got his first haircut there and DD will get hers next month. :)

Genieswife, it is wonderful!! The barbershop is located in Town Square, where you walk into MK just under the train station. Look to the far left corner of the square and it is there.

No appointment is needed, just stroll on in (although its better to go first thing as a line can form later on). If you tell your barber that it is baby's first haircut, they will receive a magical moments certificate and their own MIckey Ears with "first haircut" written across the back.

So happy i did this in january on my DS first birthday. he still loves his ears now. Don't miss this lovely treat,
Claire xx

It is a wonderful way for a child to receive a first haircut. We got our twin daughters' hair cut there for the first time and we are going to get my 2 year old's hair cut for the first time this trip. They make such a bug deal about it! Adult men can get their haircut also & get colored gel put in.

FYI-women can also get their haircut there as well.
In August, while waiting for my 2 sons and DH,
I asked. They said Yes!!!
I got a great haircut from Michel. :sunny:

If you or your kids do not need a haircut, they also do hair painting. My DS, who keeps a very short haircut, had the top of his head painted and a mickey head put in the back. They also put mickey sprinkles in the top. It was great! He got many comments throughout the day and the paint just washes out. :earboy2:

Oh for fun! DD will be 11 months when we go and may not have much hair to cut :p , but I soooooooooo want to do this!!! :cheer2:

We did this for my son on the 4th two years ago. My daughter was watching and they asked if they could fix her hait as well--I said yes and it made her day. All day long people were asing where we go tthis done--their hair was done in red, white, and blue. It was great. My youngest son will be 7mths when we go in may and we think that he will have enough hair then to get a haircut and I cannot wait.

DS had his first haircut there and they were great. Michael kept whispering to him and kept him distracted so that he could cut his hair easily. We then got the mickey ears and a certificate for it.

We'll be going in October and I'm SO hoping that our then 6-month old will have enough hair to cut! If she comes out like me, she will!! Hopefully she'll have a head full of jet black curls!

I believe it was only $12 or so plus of course we gave a generous tip but it was still a great bargain. :)

My dd will be about 2.5 when we go next month. She has never had a haircut, and I would love to do this. Will they cut girls hair, and would they do a "my 1st haircut" for her? tia.

Absolutely! They will not only cut her hair, but they'll style it up in a "princess" fashion. This was one of the highlights of my DD's last trip, although it wasn't her 1st haircut. I'll see if I can dig up a photo and post it here later.

Our ds had his first haircut at MK a month ago...it was wonderful! If you go Wed. or later in the week, ask for Michal; he was awesome! He used tons of Mickey stickers to keep ds distracted...NO tears and NO struggling! He was 12 mos. at the time. The cost is $14 (plus tip, if you choose to leave one). The babies get a free "My First Haircut" set of Mickey ears and Michal saved ALL of his hair clippings and packaged them in a tissue with some "pixie dust" for me to put it in a scrapbook or keepsake box. Tomorrow I will dig up some pictures!
As for the poster who asked about a 2.5 y.o. girl, I'm pretty sure the barber can tell if it's a first haircut or not, in most cases...and a little girl getting her first cut at 2.5 is not unusual, I would think. :wizard:

What do you think about a first official haircut? my DS will be just over 2 when we visit, but hair isn't growing very fast and I have trimmed his bangs a little, but not much. He's never had an offical haircut because I've been very nervous about it and I also keep dreaming to do this. :sad2: I would so love to do this, do you think they would do the "first haircut" celebrations on him? I'll be taking tons of photos and bring a ziploc for the clippings anyway.
