Babyproofing in villas?

We are staying in two bedroom villas at the Boardwalk and Wilderness Lodge (one week each) in December. We will have our very active and curious 18 month old with us. I was wondering if those of you with little ones do any sort of babyproofing for your stay. Of course, we will be watching him all the time, but he would enjoy having a little freedom to cruise around the villa and explore without us constantly having to say "no" or pick him up and remove him from an area. I was thinking about outlet covers, maybe some of those cabinet locks for under the kitchen sink (the kind that go around the handles, not the kind you have to install), etc. Also, does the balcony door have a lock on it? Any thoughts

Bringing your own baby proofing items is a good idea. At VWL there are two sets of locks, one higher that only an adult can reach, so no worries there. Also, it's a sliding door, so it would be hard for a toddler to open anyway. At BWV, there are no additional locks, and the doors to the balconies are regular doors, not sliding doors. They are held closed by a regular dead bold, at a normal level. The doors in our room didn't say closed if the deadbold wasn't secured, and our 3YO could easily open the door himself. It wasn't babyproof at all, and we constantly had to keep our eyes on him.

We just stayed in a BCV 1-bedroom recently, and I came accross a few outlet covers (covering outlets) in the living room. I thought it was cute and nice that mousekeeping had left them there.

Our daughter was 16 months when we were in a 2 bed in September. We were given a handicapped accessible villa and it was a problem as the appliances and trash were lower so we were moved. At check in find out if the room is HA and try not to accept such a room if possible.

We used elastic hair bands to tie the door handles of the kitchen cupboards closed and we used the coffee table to block off access to the kitchen if we were cooking or ironing and wanted to keep her out.

We moved the phones back out of her reach.

She did turn the bath taps on a couple of times so leave the plug out!

Housekeeping brought us a highchair which was great.

We brought those foam things that you put on the top of the doors to stop her closing them on her fingers.

We moved all pens out of reach.

We made sure no cable/wires in the kitchen were hanging within her reach as in the HA she nearly pulled the coffee pot on herself as it was on a low counter.

It was hard work round by the pool, she just wanted to go, go, go!!!But all in all we had a great time with her at WDW.

Have fun!

When ours were littler we would take a couple of packages of outlet covers. The doors had locks up high. We also tied a cople of doors closed with string to keep them away from knoves, etc. The phone was always a challenge.
