For all of the allergy folks that have been to Babycakes bakery in downtown Disney.....What were your favorite (and least favorite) items that you've had from Babycakes? With all the allergies in our family, I am so excited to be able to go in there and pick out anything. I know I am going to get a little carried away with our purchases, so I am hoping to narrow it down a little. Otherwise I might walk out of there with one of everything!

Carried away? I am just waiting for them to give me my own parking spot! LOL

Love the chocolate frosted Blondies.:cool1::cool1::cool1:

Not a big fan of the brownie bites.

I've not tried here YET, but it's the first place I'm hitting on my arrival day! I've already made a mental list of what I'm getting:

donuts!
blondies
cinnamon buns
vanilla cupcake
pumpkin cupcake
cinnamon sugar toastie

Serioulsy, I am so excited to be able to walk into an actual bakery and order anything I want.:goodvibes My DD12 has food allergies as well and she is really excited about this place too!

My favorites are the frosted blondie and frosted brownie cupcakes (and there are all different flavors of frosting). I also like the donuts but usually only get one. The lemon cupcake was nice as well.

I didn't like the red velvet as much...it was fine, it's just a little too different from a "traditional" red velvet for me. Also, I love to bake cookies at home so the cookies there just didn't do it for me.

The vanilla and chocolate cupcakes are fine, but I don't usually get those because I like the blondie and brownie cupcakes better.

Mary

The only thing I can recommend are the mint brownies.

Everything's great. We have two here in L.A. we frequent.

We actually just got back from picking things up at Babycakes out here in LA!

The only thing I really have not liked is the Red Velvet cupcake. I find it way too dry for me. Also, I usually take off most of the frosting from the cupcakes....I find it way too sweet.

Otherwise, I have had:
the cupcakes (various flavors)
donuts
macaroons
black and white cookies
Thin Mints
Brownies

I do like the cookies, but I am only allergic to eggs and nuts so I just prefer to make my own cookies at home. Its not that difficult and its not worth the $1.50/cookie to buy them there

We ate a lot from there! The only thing that was not great was the red velvet cupcake. I loved the pumpkin chip bread and it was a nice size piece for breakfast. The kids loved the donuts, although we opted for vanilla frosting since the chocolate looked messy! The chocolate chip cookies were good as well as the blondie cupcakes. The cake bites were very rich. I looked back at our receipts and realized we spent a lot of money there but it was so nice to be able to get whatever we wanted and know it was safe to eat!

Is this place nut free as well?

It's peanut free. Technically, they cannot claim to be tree nut free becasue the FDA recalssified coconut as a tree nut and they use coconut oil. however, they dont use any other tree nuts.

You can go to their website and they have an FAQ section about it.

We LOVE the cupcake-size brownies with icing.

Seriously, L.O.V.E. :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9: :yay: :yay:

Thanks everyone, for submitting so many recommendations! It's great to know what your favorites are!

We look forward to seeing you all soon!

Love,
BabyCakes NYC

Just wanted to share our Babycakes experience. Hopefully, ours is a rarity. I had heard amazing things about Babycakes and was so super excited to be able to take my son to a bakery (what a dream!) He has a milk, egg, and tree nut allergy - not coconut though. My anxiety first began when the man in front of us ordered cookies with a big glass of milk. The server sat the glass on the counter and proceeded to pour the milk. A little splashed on the counter. She wiped it with a paper towel and threw it away. She didn't wash her hands or anything. For a place that claims to be dairy free, I'm not sure I buy it. We ordered some cupcakes, cookies and donuts. He ate the cupcakes in the bakery - no problem. We saved the donuts for the next morning. Within minutes of eating the donuts, he started sneezing, getting blotchy red patches on his face, and wheezing. We treated it as an allergic reaction. Took the cookies and threw them in the trash not willing to risk eating them. We can have baked egg so I don't think that was the problem. I really believe they are tree nut free with the exception of coconut. My concern is that there is milk cross-contamination. That said my son is severely allergic to milk. If it touches him he gets a rash. We have his own pots, pans, and utensils that have never touched milk products. We hand wash all of his plates, pans, utensils and they don't go into our dishwasher because of cross-contamination. I think if you have an intolerance or slight allergy this may be the place for you. I just wanted to share our story if you share a severe life-threatening allergy. I did not feel comfortable, we experienced an unfortunate reaction on what should have been a fun vacation, and we won't go back.

....that's weird- I didn't know Babycakes served drinks??? I have never seen anything but baked goods in their area. Where did the milk come from?

Hmm, that doesn't sound right. I'm not trying to start anything with you but I highly doubt that Babycakes would have dairy behind their counter. They don't even sell beverages.:confused3 Are you sure you didn't buy a beverage in a different part of the food area? I know it shares it with Fresh A Peel and Pollo Compero.

She pulled the milk out of a refrigerator and it was just poured directly from a half gallon carton.

Hi There!

I'm sorry to hear about your son's reaction, but I did want to respond to your concern. We take every precaution possible with our baked goods. Both our kitchen and counter area are kept completely milk-free. We do not serve beverages from our bakery counter, and we are diligent about keeping milk and products that contain milk away from our kitchen and our service counter.

The restaurant does have a bar area, which is separate from the bakery, that serves coffee, wine, beer, and smoothies; but our baked goods are separate from this area and the employees from the bar area do not handle our baked goods. Perhaps that is where someone was pouring milk?

We want to ensure safe experiences for all who come to our bakery. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at 407.938.9044. I hope this information is helpful!
