If DH and I take DS with us on, say, Space Mountain, with the intention of "swapping" him and then he starts freaking out about wanting to go on the ride with either DH or myself, can I ask the attendant to let us on? I'm thinking it might be a bit unfair to the people waiting behind, but as my kiddo gets become more and more of a thrill seeker I can see this becoming a problem for us (he will be just 3 when we go). Any thoughts or experiences? Thanks.

They only way that they will let you on is if he meets the height requirement. Most attractions with the child swap will not even allow you to wait in the line with the child if he is not tall enough (I know this is the case for Dinosaur, Mission Space, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder...there are many that do not allow you to wait in the line with the child, you are given a Child swap pass and directed to the waiting area, when the other people in your party are done then you will swap and get to go). Space Mountain (which is the attraction you mentioned) does allow you to wait in the line with the rest of your party and then swaps you at the load however if he is not tall enough (44 inches for Space Mountain) they will not let him on.

Just a suggestion for Big Thunder Mtn. RR....

You can "preview" the ride --- there is an observation area near the exit to the ride and your son can see what the ride does before you get into the line.

Also -- just wanted to confirm that at BTMRR, the "swaps" are done outside. When the first group of riders returns; the other person(s) will go through the "fast pass" line with a "rider switch pass".

The height requirement for BTMRR (and also Splash Mtn) is 40".

Worse case scenario.... if you get to the loading point and your son opts out.... then exit and get a "rider switch pass" and wait for the rest of your party to finish the ride.
