My Sister in Law is expecting her second son in April. Her first son is 5, and I know she had a big shower when she was expecting him. She gave almost everything away, but recently was given all the big ticket items she will need, plus lots of boys clothes. I would like to give her a Diaper shower, but am unsure how to word the invitations. Any thoughts? It will most likely just be a few close family friends, and perhaps her sister and stepmother (I am not sure if they are planning a separate event). I am planning to do a mid afternoon shower, with snacks and cake. Any thoughts on cute decorations/snacks. I will be paying for this alone, so would like some economical ideas.

humm, when I was younger "penny showers" were very popular for brides. Maybe you could adapt this for a baby.

When you were invited to a "penny shower", all gifts had to be under $10 or so. We were asked to bring that little stuff you need (pastry brushes, can openers, pot holders, dish towels, etc). You need so much of this little stuff that the cost really adds up.

Any how, I'd see an invitation "Pennies from Heaven" on the front. Lots of "pennies" falling over a sleeping baby in a little basket. The inside could say something like "Mary & Frank are expecting their beautiful new baby soon. To celebrate, please join us in a Penny Shower. Lets shower the new baby with that "practical" stuff babies need on a daily basis." Depending on your guest, you could add "please don't spend more that $20 (or whatever amt you want)" or you could just "pass the word" that diapers/lotions/wipes, a/k/a "little stuff" would be most appreaciated.

Any how, these were tons of fun when I was a broke college student......

If anyone else has any baby shower ideas, I would be forever grateful. My twin sister is due June 24th and I would love to throw her the best baby shower. I haven't come up with any ideas yet.

One other question...when should I have the party...May?

For twins, I'd plan on mid-May at the latest. The beginning of May might be better. Twins usually come early, and many moms spend some time on bed rest before they're born.

My DSIL is due at the end of April, so I was planning to have it the beginning of April. Any other ideas out there?

When I was expecting my 3rd (7 years after having my second), my sisters surprised me with a "sprinkle" instead of a "shower". Just immediate family and close friends were invited and I was given diapers (LOTS AND LOTS of them in every size), wipes, baby food, formula, bottles, and clothes (had 2 DD, was expecting DS - didn't think he'd like to wear all the pink dresses I had saved, lol). HTH!! :flower:

I love the idea of calling it a "Sprinkle"! Then I could specify that they could bring diapers, wipes, stuff like that. Perhaps use watering cans for shower favors?
Keep the ideas coming!

I don't have any suggestions, but just wanted to say that I love the idea of a diaper shower. I was just talking about that earlier today. We have a lot of the big stuff and really need the essentials, such as diapers, wipes, etc. My sister-in-law has talked about throwing me a shower. I am not sure if it is appropriate to ask her to do a diaper shower or if it would be rude to ask that. Should I tell her that I would like one like that or just let her do whatever she wants?
