So my cousin is having her 4th and 5th (they tried for more, but got multiples). They are girls and will be here soon.

I am throwing her a baby shower and need ideas. We plan on doing hors d'oeuvres (finger foods, some hot, some cold) and a couple games.

Any ideas? This isnt her first child... but it is twins. Id love all the ideas I can get (and photos if you have any). Did you have something great happen at your shower that made it memorable? Or special ideas for twins?

Decor?
hors d'oeuvres recipes?
Games?
etc....

Any and all feedback is great.

I'm not a big fan of the traditional baby shower so I can't offer any thoughts there (I banned games at mine), but I have twins and I went through a lot of diapers. If money is no object, you don't have to be practical, but if they are like most people, a diaper shower is a great way to help out the twin parents-to-be.

The only reason I mentioned this is that I got a ton of really expensive beautiful things that I have never used for my twins. Diapers, now those I would have used!

As for food, if there are going to be men there, you can't go wrong with those cocktail meatballs. For some reason, men love them. If you want something fancy, baked polenta squares topped with ricotta and a small cherry tomato (or any number of things). I like to make these little mushroom turnovers (basically saute mushrooms with a little bit of salt and then add some thyme and sour cream just to coat, wrap in pie dough--people love them). Strawberries that are almost quartered and filled with sweetened cream cheese go very fast at parties. Shrimp you can't go wrong with, although put it out later or it will be gone immediately.

Nobody did this for me, but I would have loved it! What about holding the shower at one of those make and freeze meal places? Instead of gifts (since this isn't their first baby, they probably have everything), everyone could chip in on the expense of making meals for them. The mom to be could come and put her feet up and watch everyone prepare meals for her family to use once the twins come. I barely had time to eat, let alone cook, when my twins were little, and I didn't have older kids to take care of.

I went to a shower for twins once & the theme was, "Tea for two"!
It was really cute, they did finger sandwiches, tea, petitefours, (sp?) flowers in teapots, etc..:goodvibes

My twins were #4 and #5, and even though repeat showers aren't the norm here, people felt sorry for us. :lmao: I didn't have games (thank goodness - little too old for that!), but I got practical gifts - diapers, clothes, etc. What I appreciated the most were the meals people brought me, as well as people coming over to hold a baby (my next youngest wasn't even 2 yet). Take out restaurant gc's, gc for a house cleaning - be practical!

I believe that for my twin shower they had a roll of toilet paper and everyone took some off the roll. The one who took off the exact amount (or closest to) that would go around my belly won. :sad2:

Funny for them, but embarrassing for me.

I generally don't like baby shower games, but I thought this was cute for twins. You do a "famous pair/duos" fill in game. You could have people do it on their own, or in pairs.

You just make a list, but leave one off...like "Peanut Butter and ________" "Batman and ___________" Whomever is done first, wins the prize.

There is no way I would've played this, with my singletons or my twins! :scared1:

Ohhh. That's super cute. I would have liked that.

I have seen that game at showers and sometimes yarn is used.

The diaper idea is really good. When my twins were born that really would have been great as Pampers were just going on the market. I went to a baby shower recently and I got a huge basket and put all different stages of baby food and juices. She really liked that especially in this economy crunch.
