Hi, I know that there are a lot of YOUNG moms on the Budget Board so I thought I would ask this ?? here!! ( I am a MOM but not a young one!!) I am looking for a nice Baby Shower Favor that is budget friendly?? The Shower will have about 50 guests. So, what was the favor at your own Baby Shower or a Shower that you attended?? What is TRENDY today at Baby Showers?? I have not been to a Baby Shower in a few years and I am helping my cousin give a Shower to her younger sister. THANKS !! :) Joan

Not extremely cheap, but I like the printed M&Ms that you can order with cute things on them specific to the baby and couple. I've gotten them at a few showers. Also, handmade chocolates of baby items were nice. Can you tell I'm trying to diet??? :)

My shower about a year ago had egg-shaped egg timers. Everyone loved them and have mentioned on multiple occasions how nice it was to get a useful gift!

I made homemade bath salts, using epson salts, some baby oil and a drop or two of food coloring (red or blue). Then I put them in a baby food jar and cut a small square of material, placed it on top and tied it on with ribbon. They were cute and fun and cost almost nothing. you can get baby food jars from friends or freecycle. Epsom salts are one a couple of dollars for a big bag. You can use inexpensive fabric and you need less than a yard (hit the remnants section at the fabric store)

They look kind of like these:

Easy and as inexpensive as you want it to be - candles. If the gender isn't known - half blue and half pink. Buy a few yards of toulle from JoAnne's and you get get little 'diaper' pins (mini plastic onces) - might even be able to pick these up at the dollar store. Tie the candles in toulle and tie with ribbon and attach pin at the tie.

I did this for one of my sister's...And I was able to get all the candles 1/2 off - I got the smaller candles about an inch or so tall. You can get inexpensive packages of like 12 of that kind of candle for under $10. So - when all is said and done - I'd say you could do this idea for maybe around $40 total.

You could buy more expensive candles too if you want to spend more.

Also - easy game that most don't mind playing...A word scramble with baby items (take the words: diapers, baby bottle, formula, exersaucer and just jumble them up out of order with a line next to it for them to unscramble the word. First one done wins a prize).

I'm a fan of food favors-- chocolates, tea bags, or sweets.

We've done a candy buffet and that was lots of fun-- everyone loved it. There is a thread on here or in the family board about candy buffets too. It cost about $150 for 60+ guests. We had a fair amount of candy left over. If you go this route, one tip I'd give you is to use individually wrapped candy-- you need less of it. If you buy M&Ms or jelly beans or other small candy, you need tons to make it look nice. We included some sugar free options as well.

I can give you all the details if you want....

We made chocolate suckers! Looked like Cabbage Patch kids, then "planted" them in a pot. Everyone loved them.

i went to a shower and the family was european and they had these european brand chocolate mini umbrellas. it was cute they handed them out and said you need an umbrella when there is a shower! i also got a cheap vase of flowers that i ended up giving away since i was going to WDW the next day. you can also personalize hershey bars by printing out a wrapper and replacing the hershey one. you can probably find the templates and graphics online.

For my summer baby shower my Mom got very small terra cotta pots (think votive candle size), hot glued a blue gingham ribbon around it and place a pansy in it. They also served as table decor.

HTH! :wizard:

For my friend's baby shower about six years ago, we used Easter M&M's in tulle. They were nice baby pastel colors - but back then they didn't put the little chickies and eggs on them either. ;)
Along the same lines, if you could find a bulk candy place (Like B A Sweetie up here) you could get several pounds of either Jelly Bellies or M&M's in baby colors. Places like Flower Factory (hopefully membership is still free for new folks) or Pat Catan's would have tulle circles or sheer bags for cheaper than other crafty places.
For one shower we got glycerin soaps and hot glued a fabric flower to the top.
Or how about little tiny paper boxes with baby foot print/hand print stickers on top with pastel butter mints inside.
A pretty colored, scented, sealed votive candle wrapped in tulle
I liked the PPs idea of homemade bath salts. You could put them in 4oz baby bottles (in packs from the dollar store) if you can't find enough baby food jars around.

Fun game:
Make a boy and a girl column labeled A-Z and ask everyone to write down a name for a boy and a girl beginning with each letter of the alphabet.
IE Aiden, Annie, Brent, Beverly, etc.

HAVE FUN!!!

For my baby shower I bought hershey candy bar wraps that were personalized. I knew the sex of the baby but hadn't told anyone, on the back I had a nice poem that announced the sex of the baby.

There are various sites online that you can order from and some people sell them on ebay but it's also something someone might be able to do on their own and just print them at home. I ended up making my own template for my son's 3rd birthday favors, just had to buy the hershey bars and then you simply wrap them around the bars and use a glue stick to hold them in place :)

Good Luck!

For my 1st baby shower, I had boo boo bunnies for my favor.

For my 2nd baby shower, I knew it was a girl so the theme was a tea party. My cousin went to the dollar store and bought tea cups and saucers and filled them with candy.

This was the favor at my shower, except instead of diaper pins there were little tags that said "It's a Girl" attached to the ribbon. I don't know where these were bought from, since my aunt did the favors.

I did the same thing for my sister's shower. Everyone likes candles. I love the food favors on this thread - great ideas!

No favors were given at any of my baby showers. I don't think they're necessary. I've been to A LOT of baby showers, and hosted A LOT of baby showers and I can only think of one where any sort of favor was given. It was a cute little tulle bag of a variety of Hershey kisses, and on the bottom of each was a round sticker that was printed with "Baby Smith." I thought it was cute but in my area, favors are not required or the norm.

I love those, also like the popcorn boxes that say about to pop...too cute

SIL shower we put wildflower seeds in mini baby bottles...had a whole "in bloom" theme for the shower

I have only been to one shower that I recieved a favor and it was a tea bag with the covering saying a baby is brewing, every other shower I have ever been to or thrown we never did favors (so that is 1 out of abt 20 that there were favors). We do have games planned and the person wins gets the gift (not the mother to be) and for those gifts I go to Bath and Body when they have a sale on their antibaticerial soap and buy those at like $3 a piece which is good. I also get all different scents no two alike and wrap them with tissue paper and then tell the ones that won that they are free to trade with each other. When I throw the shower too, I always make sure to get the mom to be a special gift that is either a part of the decoration or one of the games so they get it after the shower but its almost like a double use: example for my best friend's baby shower she was doing her nursery in Turtles with polka dots in blue and brown, it was around Easter and I found a Turtle stuff animal basket with a blue polka dot handle and I got washclothes from her registry and some pasifiers and arranged them in it and I used it as decoration on the food table. Another shower I did the diaper bag game and the bag and all the toys and esstianals you pulled out of it were given to the mom. Oh I also ALWAYS do a guessing game where I get a baby bottle bank or something along the theme bank that is mostly clear and put some type of wrapped candy (that way it doesnt have to be cleaned after) and give it to the mom to be too.

Sorry I know I kinda got off the subject but maybe you will like some of these ideas.

If you really want favors.. OrientalTrading.com has favors for good prices.

If you need any help with games just PM me I have a book of baby shower games as well as a ton of family favorites that I will share!!!

Hope this helps!! :goodvibes

Didn't read all the replies, but anything edible.

I'm doing large cookies for my sister's shower wrapped in cellaphane with a cute tag on them. That's what a lot people in my area do. Something like this

Those are really hot around here too. Everyone oohs and aahs over them, though, to be honest, I have yet to have one that really tastes great. But they're SO cute to look at!

Cupcakes and cake pops are also hot.
