We are spending 10 days at POFQ and because my son is young we will spending more time in the rooms than usual.

He will be 16 months and is into EVERYTHING!

I am going to bring some outlet covers, but I'm not sure what else to bring.
He loves to open drawers which worries me, especially if there are drawers or doors in the TV stand.

Does anyone else have any tips? I am trying to look at close ups of the handles on the furniture in the rooms.

Have one parent be in the room with him at all times. It is not like the rooms are so vast that you can't keep a small child in your view at all times.

I didn't have any problems with my then 11 month daughter and we did not bring anything to baby proof you should be fine

Stick the sink trashcan up on top of the "closet" shelf. Take the tissue box out of the compartment in front of the sink. I'm not sure what do about the drawers and door on the dresser. We did have a pinched finger, but he lived. I think you should be fine. The rooms really are small enough to to make it impossible to do too much damage. :goodvibes

Yes, you'll be in the room, but it's exhausting pulling a toddler off of things constantly. When I had a 1yr old in a non-Disney hotel room, I moved a lot of furniture to block drawers and things. I'm sure housekeeping loved me! (Bring tip money). You may want a door handle lock to keep the little one out of the bathroom entirely. When mine was 9mos, we were staying in the new tower at the Contemporary resort, and I remember a lot of sharp corners on furniture - especially the pull-out sofa - so you may want something to pad them. Good luck and have fun!

That was extremely helpful jedijohn, thank you.

LOL! Honestly, its good advice.

I remember being a first time mom and planning on our first trip to Disney and trying to figure out how to babyproof, whether I should get tattoos or dogtags for my little one in case she got lost, etc.

And then my mom snapped me out of it. Specifically, with respect to the tattoos/dog tags I remember she said something like "I think you can handle not losing your own child." I also remember thinking it was a little harsh, but she was absolutely correct. Needless to say, I did not use (and never have used) any sort of identification for my little ones.

The only thing I think is useful that isn't necessarily common sense is to request a "medical clean." Essentially, they are just extra careful that everything is wiped down and vaccummed. It isn't baby-proofing per se, but we do it for every trip with our little ones since their hands are on EVERYTHING (and then usually directly to their mouths).

A medical clean - very interesting, thanks!

I do worry about dust - I've made the mistake of looking under those beds before. :scared1: Particularly if he will be sleeping at floor level in his playpen.

TLC you're right, I don't want to be constantly lunging across the room to pull him off of things. I'm not so worried about sharp corners as small pieces, cords and electrical outlets. Which he gravitates toward. ;)

One thing we had to do when our kids were younger was to unplug the telephone. We don't get calls in the room, nor do we use wake-up calls (who needs a wake-up call when you have a baby or toddler?), so the phone never gets used anyway. But our boys always were interested in the phone with the nice long cord and would grab it and push buttons at random, so it's better to have it non-operational!

I always bring masking tape. Then when I arrive in the room, I get down to my DD's level to see what she can see and reach. I tape up: outlets, drawers, curtain strings, and anything else that I think would be a danger to her. I'm also very careful on how I tape things up so that I don't damage anything in the room and can easily remove the tape before checking out of the room.

I can't remember the size of the rooms at POR, since I haven't stayed there in 9 years, so sorry if this isn't helpful. But I have rented a play yard to a) block off access to the bathroom area and b) created a makeshift safe play area so I could at least go to the bathroom if I needed too! LOL

I can't remember who I used, but I searched on play yard, and got several quotes. One was super cheap *and* included free delivery/pick up to bell services.

Be sure to store your cosmetic case out of reach. Meds, mouthwash etc can be dangerous. We always throw a towel over the bathroom door so it can not mash little fingers or get locked with your child inside OR with all your stuff inside (can ya tell this one is from experience;) Zip ties (bring along scissors to remove) can keep doors closed.

I always remove and store away bed spreads to keep little ones from touching them(yuck).

Take along a few toys to keep her happy but you do of course have to have her in view at all times.

Keep in mind all the rooms I've been in have the lovely accessible handle bathroom door handles and not a knob. My DD loved going in and playing in there.

We put the phone up on top of the TV stand too to keep them from playing with or licking it (YUCK) Same with the TV remote.

We were just at Saratoga Springs in a studio. We had a kitchenette that we had to baby proof so DH fashioned a duct tape thing to hold the cabinet closed without sticking the tape to the doors. We also had closet doors that pulled open. Nice finger smasher there, especially with the 2 of them.

We've been traveling with our overactive twin boys and definitely understand your concerns!

As soon as we walk in the rooms, we take out the Lysol wipes and wipe everything- remote, phone, door handles, cabinet fronts, a/c unit buttons, sink handles, etc.

I use painters tape to tape the dresser drawers shut-- I feel it's safer than masking or duct tape on the furniture finishes.

We also bring outlet covers and unplug the phone.
We bring an inflatable tub spout cover.

At POFQ, we like to put the pack and play in the 'closet' area and pull the drape to make a little room for them. The pack n play fits well in there- we fit two! Just make sure it's far away enough from the sink so he can't turn in the water.

Good luck!

Just to ditto the above--painter's tape (or duct tape, but it might leave a residue) and outlet covers! I never figured out how to stop the handle type doors, so we usually put chairs in front of them. When we stayed at Old Key West, the boys were just shy of 1, and we rented the super play yard from A Baby's Best Friend to section off 1/2 of the room. It might be useful to have something like that to close off the bathroom/sink area (I don't know which hotel you'll be in)

Painter's tape? What a great idea!

We stayed in a 1 br at Kidani when my little one was 13 mos. We didn't think to bring baby-proofing items and I wished we had. All of the garbage cans, pots & pans had to be up on the counters. :lmao: The first morning at 6am she pulled out all of the pots and started banging on the floor. I'm sure whoever was under our room was thrilled.

I have something like this that I bring now for the cabinets:

When we took our oldest for the first time he was ten months old and we stayed at CBR. We didn't do any baby proofing other than put the bathroom trashcan up out of reach on the counter during our stay. The only thing that I really wish we would have done is packed some sort of rubber mat thing for the tub. I did use a hand towel in the bottom of the tub during his baths but he still slipped around.

This is all excellent advice, thanks so much!

I may even use some of it for my home.

Masking/painter's tape is brilliant, especially as some cabinets don't have knob handles.

The phone is also a good idea, and I'll definitely bring along some Lysol wipes.

Putting the pack n' play in the bathroom area: BRILLIANT! Why didn't I think of this? I love it, now we can watch TV and read with the lights on.

If you unplug the phone, please make sure you plug it back in before you leave - who else would even think to look to see if their phone was plugged in?

Giving the little ones lots of time out of the stroller, letting them play in the parks, etc, is a great way of making them too tired to get into mischief in the hotel room.

i always go to the dollar store and load up on clothespins we use them to shut those drapes that never really shut, and we find tons of uses for them we close alot of packs of wipes and snacks with them also, buy about 4 plug in nite lights usually use them around the pack and play for qiock check-ins to see if awake,in (bathroom for quick visits) and quick changes in the middle of the nite..we use them alot, for early morn.. i can go thru the luggage and start setting about clothes and outfits together
