Baby Names that have been done to death

Honestly, it wasn't until 8th grade that I encountered another Lisa, I was born in 1978. I hated my name because everyone else had cool nicknames but you can't make one out of my name. So I ended up with Lis (lease) which I hated and still hate to this day because I feel like a business transaction... :headache:

I always liked Dean, Penelope (Penny), Bo or Beau, Dennis, and Steven.

I dislike Brittany, Tiffany, or any other -any name. Everyone I ever met with that name always had a nasty, stuck up personality. :confused3

I know someone whose kids are Hannah, Austin, and Katie. With two traditional names, I really wonder where Austin came from. Hmmmmmm...I'd guess family somewhere along the way.

Dh wanted to name the new baby Austin in the WORST way... the name is fine... just not for my kids.

Honestly, the only name that gives me that feeling is Madison...and Avery is quickly following suit. I think it's only because I know several people personally who have named their children that. At least it makes it easy to remember what my friends kids names are. :rotfl:

My daughter's name is pretty popular nowadays, I didn't find that out until after I had signed the birth certificate though. :rolleyes1

I don't cringe - I remember what it was like to just be in love with a name and I really try to remember that when meeting yet another baby with a top 10 name.

That said, we went on the hunt for unusual for DD - not weird nor did we do anything funky with the spelling. We just found a not common name that we loved. Now, she is 10 and within the last year her not so common name is popping up more and more at hospitals everywhere.

DS has a family name, again, not weird just very unusual. We have never met another besides my DH and FIL but thanks to the invention of MySpace we know my DS is not alone:rolleyes:

I taught kindergarten, and it was pretty tough on the girls who had boys' names. Trendy names may be cute at the time but may not be 30, 40, 50 years from now. When I named my children, I pictured them as future adults with the names I chose.

I agree with the poster who said you should name your kids what you want to call them. I am not a fan of the whole Michael=Mike, Rebecca=Becky, etc
thing. It drives me nuts. And my "favorite ones" Robert =Bobby. I can see Robby, but the name isn't Bobert!;) And how do you get Maggie out of Margaret? Well, I could go on and on, but I wont! LOL!

My sons are Ryan and Liam. Short, simple and Irish.:goodvibes I like names that aren't shortened so I went short to begin with. When we chose Liam, we didnt see it often, but since then we have run into it a few times and love to see other little boys sharing the name! :goodvibes

oh, and the Sean=Shawn thing always threw me for a loop too!

If I meet another newborn Aidan, Jayden, Brayden I will cry. Cute babies, but very been there done that names.
My nephew's middle name is Kaiden but fortunately his first name is Jude which is not that common.

I don't have any children but I do have a list of baby names that I like. For a long time I liked Madison and Mackenzie way back before they were popular. Then after the frenzy for those names I couldn't stand them. They had been ruined for me.

Oh my :rotfl: :rotfl:

There is a death row inmate with the first name Gdongalay -- is this a real name? How the heck do you even pronounce this name? No wonder he turned to crime.

:scared1: The attorney I used to work for represented him on appeal.

My brother is Robert he use to say the same thing my name isn't Bobert... He goes by Rob. There is no way to shorten my name... I dont think Hell is a good nickname :rolleyes1

How in the heck do you say his name?

(rumor is there may be some info that will take him off death row).

The first G is silent. I wrote most of the appeal for the Supreme Court, but it is fuzzy now because that was a few years ago. I was playing with the idea of going to law school so I became a paralegal to test the waters. I decided law was not for me.:)

I had my first DD in '94 we thought long and hard about her name and decided on Melanie since we didn't hear to many kids with that name and we still don't hear to many. Then when DD10 came along in '97 we tried to do the same thing we came up with Samantha :lmao: The day I was released from the hospital our local newspaper called wanting to know if we could send them a picture of our Samantha because it was the top 10 names of the year:rotfl: DUH!!!! Truthfully though that name is perfect for her I couldn't imagine her as anything else Then when DS came along I knew he was going to be a Jr. so his name is Joseph and it fits him perfect too.

I know a girl named Nicolette and a boy named Oldrin and one named Ry.

Oh, and I also know a boy who's Icelandic ( I think that's how you spell it ) and there is no way how I can pronounce his first name. But appently no one can, since he goes by his middle name Helgi.

And like William=Bill....seriously, wouldn't that be Billiam? or Will?? And how in the world does Richard=Dick????
I am sure we could go on and on with this!

When we told people we were naming our son Liam, a lot of people thought it was William and we just called him Liam. I told them if his name was William, we would call him that.

Clarabelle, you were right: Pepper is a girl, Fierce and Bosco are boys.

I know another family (although they've since moved away) with children named J'Ana, Dane, Saroya, and Stryder.

And another one that had kids with all nature names: Leaf, Winter, River and Autumn. (The girls were the seasons, the boys were the others.)

I will admit that my son wants very much to give his kids Star Wars names - he was really hoping for Anakin - but his wife refuses.

I have a nephew named Christopher. When he was in kindergarten the teacher asked SIL if they could shorten it to Chris, so it wouldn't so hard for him to write. She was livid! She said she named him Christopher and that was what he was to be called! He remained Christopher until he grew up and shortened it himself.

I must admit though, my oldest is Robert and we have always called him Bob. He is named after his father and grandfather and his father's best friend (father and grandfather both have first names Robert, bf and ds share first and middle names). His grandfather was called Bob, so thats what his dad wanted ds to be called. Younger ds goes by his middle name, because I didn't want his name shortened. His first name is Charles and I hate "Charley" (no offense :flower3: ), and of course thats the first thing everyone wanted to call him; so he goes by his middle name--btw, thats not something I would recommend either, using the middle name can get quite confusing in school and on paperwork and such.

DD is my only child that is not named after anyone and I really used a name I liked (not figured out how to use a family name), and she is Skyler--her brothers actually came up with the name but I really liked it. I didn't know that it was more often used for a boy. Actually though, there are only two Skyler's in her whole school and the other one is a girl, too. Her name is unique but not really "way out there" either.

Those are great suggestions. (Actually, my brother already suggested Denise because he already has "de nephew". *Groan*)

We'll name her something! :)

You should have asked her "Is that an em dash or an en dash?" :lmao:

Welcome to my world! I hated being the only Denise when I was a kid. I knew one other but she was a couple years younger than me. I couldn't ever find one of those big combs with my name on it--for my back pocket:rotfl: Now I like Denise. but one of the first things Dh's uncle said was now her had Denise & De-nephew:rolleyes:

Well crap -- we all missed that one in my building -- we were all saying Gee dee gonga lay.

I know the judge very well who wrote the opinion for the CCA. :thumbsup2

hehehe...I literally had two days to do because the senior paralegal who was supposed to working on it completely flaked out. Since I had only been a paralegal for a few months, I hope the judge didn't laugh at it.:upsidedow
