I'm a Courtney and I was born in 1987. I didn't even know another Courtney until I started working at my current job last year. She was born in 1986.

My Courtney was born in 1979. I guess we were ahead of the curve!

I have a friend named Terryn. My name is MacKenzie, and if i'd been a boy, my name would be McCloud. Some names my parents were considering were Seager ( I think that's how you spell it ) and Maddie. Not Madison, just Maddie.

I love traditional names! What I hate are the "unique" and "trendy" names, especially the ones with weird spellings. And somehow it never fails that the people who get the most creative with the spellings are also the ones who get the angriest if their child's name is mispronounced or misspelled.

On another forum I visit, a woman was determined to name her daughter "Miichael". No, that's not a typo - not only did she choose a traditionally male name she also decided to add an extra "i" just for fun. Apparently she really did end up naming her daughter that despite everyone on the board trying to tell her what a mistake it would be.

This child attends a school in ______ Parish, LA. Her mother is irate because everyone is getting her name wrong. So, if you see something come across your desk like this please remember to pronounce it correctly.

I always though Levi was a more traditional Biblical name..either that or one of kids from "Children of the Corn".

Maybe the mother was wearing Levis and drinking Chardonnay in a Mercedes when she got pregnant with them?

Or NOT wearing Levis, as the case may be.

I just really hate made up names. Some of my students this year are: Tanniajihha (Tan i ja), Titania (Titiana), Tahkizzallyn, Jhaddaka, Cahneseyah (Canesha), Rodtrellius, etc. Add in the Hispanic names that I really try to pronouce correctly (Jesus, Louis, Jorge) and you get a mouthful!

I believe in naming kids what you are going to call them. My kids are Nicholas and Kimberly, and the next one will be Noah if it is a boy (don't know for a girl). They are the only Nicholas (not Nick) and Kimberly (not Kim) in their classes.

I have a bil named Brady and a neice named Emily Ann, and one named Madison! Some of the names you all posted as being popular are very rare here, so I guess it is a regional thing. We lived in north MS for most of last year, and there were 3 Laykens in the high school, and more in the lower grades. I grew up 3 hrs south of there, and had NEVER heard that name before!

LOL I just had a convo with my friend and she is expecting a girl. Her son's name is Logan (love that name) but her daughter is going to be Violette (pronounced Violet) I love the name Violet, but the spelling, not so much personally.
My son (seven now) is named Hunter and he ALWAYS gets people calling him "Hunner" he is now getting into saying "my name has a T for a reason"

Well, Titania is a real name -- sort of. She was the Fairy queen in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. If longevity legitimizes a name, that one is fairly legitimate.

I was 1 of 3 "Stephanies" in the same grade in school except for my name is spelt "Stefanee". Try finding that spelling on a keychain, bike license plate or mug. I have the boring "Ann" for a middle name. My sister is "Michelle Fawn". My parents were going to go with "Fawn Michelle" but decide to switch it.

My kids are "Tyler Aaron" (many, many Tylers after I named him ) and "Nathan Leavitt" pronounced "lev-it"

My mom has the unique name of "Rosalie" pronounced "rose-ah-lee". My dad is "Vern" but prefers to go by his middle name of "Steven".

No matter what I named my kids it was going to be the "normal" spelling. I don't want them to have to go through their whole lives spelling their name for everyone like I've had to.

I laughed out loud at Le-dash-a. My oldest son is Matthew, he mostly goes by Matt (although I still call him Matthew) and he says after seeing some of the weird names out there, he's going to start writing his name as M@. I told him that's probably on a birth certificate somewhere.

The most common baby name I hear around here is Aiden, and all the variations of it, Hayden, Cayden, and Brayden. Everyone I know who named their baby "Aiden" says they liked that name prior to it becoming popular, and that they didn't know it was trendy.

I had a baby girl in 1992, named her Haley. In 2000, when my son was born, this was the "it" name in my area. But I didn't mind, she was eight by then. I know I would not have picked it if she had been born in 2000.

As a teen in the early '80s, I used to babysit a little girl named Brittany. I thought that was the most beautiful, unusual name & planned to give that name to my firstborn future daughter. WELL...by the time I had a DD, over 10 years later...FORGET IT....every-other girl seemed to be given that name.

My dad's legal name is Nicky! But, I guess in a way it is a family name: He was named after a DOG! Of course, he goes by Nick, now and most people don't know his real name. His brother's name was Claude, but they started calling him Butch when he was little because he was scrawny. He's gone by Butch ever since. In fact, I didn't know his real name was Claude until I was in jr. high!

I don't care at all what someone chooses to name his/her child and can't figure out why others care so much.

I only care because it makes the first day of school horrendous! Don't even think of mispronouncing the name, because then you get major attitude! I'm sorry their parents can't spell, but sometimes the arrangement of letters have nothing to do with the pronunciation! I spend the whole 1st week writing the names phonetically in my gradebook!

My brother named his son James Robert II, then called him B.J. (for Bobby Jr). Our side of the family had no problem with it. His mother (my father's ex-wife) threw a fit! I just don't want my kids to have to explain their names to every teacher every year!

My husband goes by his middle name, but has the same 1st name as his father. When we got our 1st credit report as a couple, we had all these loans listed! Oops-they were charged to the wrong Vernon. My son has dh's middle name, but his own 1st name. Just makes things easier.
