Baby name help

DH and I found out we are having a boy. While this is great news, we are now at a stalemate on the name. We had a girl name picked out that we both loved but we cannot even come close to agreeing on a boy name. If any other Dis'er had this same problem, how did you resolve it? I like more unusual, unique names and DH likes traditional names. He thinks my names are weird and I think his are boring. Also, our last name has 3 syllables, so I think the first name should be a one syllable name. DH keeps picking out 3 syllable names which I think sound too wordy. Any advise would be appreciated!

My DH and I had a very similar problem with trying to name our DS! Before finding out the baby's sex we both had agreed on a girl name - boy on the other hand, not so simple. DH insisted he wanted a "junior" and I was dead-set against it!
Also, we have a single syllable last name and I wanted our DS's name to have two or more syllables - DH preferred single syllable first names (I think partly because I was against the whole "junior" idea  ).
Well, let me tell you - we drove to the hospital and still didn't have a name picked out! I had my favorite and he had his - we hadn't yet found a happy medium. Then, DS was born and my DH looked at me and said, "So, you want to name him Trevor?" - my top boy name!
I think it was seeing all the labor and eventual delivery (ended up being an emergency c-section) that made DH accept the name I liked best.
Now we're expecting #2 and this time it's a girl. I'm due in 3 months and we still have not even talked names! We agreed on a girl name with #1 but that was over 2 years ago and I've had a change of heart and now prefer a different name. I haven't even shared the name with DH yet since I know he'll find fault with it. Likewise, he hasn't mentioned any girl names to me. I'm pretty certain that we won't discuss it until after she's born:rolleyes:

To be honest, a big factor in their names is that I am a teacher. By the time I had kids there were a lot of names that had been ruined for me. Ask any teacher about J names, lol! Anyway, I figure that the likelyhood of either of my boys being in a class with another kid with the same name is highly unlikely!

:lmao: J names weren't the worst for me - I found all "Br" names to be the most challenging.
You're absolutely right though - I definitely associate just about every name with former students. Actually, I liked the name Trevor partly because I had never had a Trevor in class.

DH and I are having the same problem...ONLY as you can see from my sig, we need TWO boy names (4 IF you count middle names!). We don't agree on ANY names at all. I'm worried our boys won't have names. We had the same issue the first time around...:sad2:

I have two boys ages 12 and 15.

Hayden Christopher is my 15 yr old.
Jensen Wade is my 12 yr old.

My best friend is doing the Alphabet route so far they have:

Alexander
Bethanie
Casadie
Delanie
Emmalie

I am another one that waits until bubs is born to decide for sure. We showed up at the hospital with the first all ready to name him when he was born, James Henry. Took one look at him and said that name just isn't right. We got to know him over the next day and finally named him Cullen Josh. (A name I always have to spell for people as we get a lot of Callums but I don't care I love it and it suits him so well). With the second we decided to wait and see and again got to know him and finally named him Seth James.

Now I did tell some people that we liked the same Seth but hadn't decided it was one of quite a few on our list. It was was met by my family with shock horror. NOW they say he couldn't possibly be known as anything else and they like the name. Names grow on people and just about everyone I know suits their name.

Congratulations and good luck 2 boys is a lot of fun and work......

Thanks everyone for all the advise and sharing your stories. Last night, we came up with a name. DH said it while looking through a name book and it just worked. It is a fun, cool, hip name without being weird. It is also very uncommon. We scrapped the middle name we decided on before and I chose a middle name that works perfectly with the first name. I am so relieved! It feels great to have a name to call the baby instead of just referring to "him." We also agreed to keep it a secret from everyone until he is born. I don't want anyone else's reactions to make us doubt our decision.

Have agreed on 3 names for each gender..just incase we have multiple babies...

Boy:
  • Douglas Higgins - First: My name. Middle name is Mother's maiden name - family tradition for 1st son
  • Andrew Lloyd - First: Wife's brother's name. Middle: Maternal Grandfather's name
  • David Matthew - Yeah, we are huge Dave Matthews Band fans..what's it to you?! :lmao:

Girl:
  • Elizabeth Anne - First: My wife loves Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice. Middle: My mother's name; the whole name happens to be my wife's patron saints name - Elizabeth Anne Seton.
  • Isabelle Marie - First: I love the name. Middle: Wife's middle name
  • Charlotte OR Scarlett - we haven't really figured out a middle name yet

We figure we have all of our bases covered if we have multiple kids.

What do you guys think of the names?

Did anybody watch the finale of Desperate Housewives?

MAYNARD???!!!

I don't care if he was some important dude, now the poor kid is saddled with a bad name and a huge pair of shoes to fill!

I just can't watch that show anymore...:rolleyes1 :headache:
