For those of you who've fed their babies formula while at WDW can you please let me know which type of formula you used and if you had any issues with your baby having a different type of formula from their normal one.

Just curious, can you not bring your own from the UK? The GMOs in the formula here in the US are not good for anyone let alone infants.

I suppose that we could, I hadn't really thought of doing that. It's just that we're going to be there for 3 weeks and that will probably be an awful lot of fomula! If the GMOs are not good for infants what do people in the US use that can't or don't want to BF?

Hi there,

We returned last week. I took formula and nappies over with me which left lots of empty space in the suitcase for shopping over in Florida!!!

I had no choice however as my baby has to have prescription formula which cannot be bought off the shelf as it has to have all the proteins already broken down and is also Lactose free.

We did buy more Pampers, however they weren't half as good as the Pampers in the Uk, they did the job, of course, hoever weren't that great and certainly didn't last as long during the night!! So maybe take some from the UK just for the nights!

I am posting however as I don't want you to run into the same problem as we have just encountered on our return flight - although the chances I hope are v.slim!!!

We had enough formula to give us 9 feeds (3 x Avent formula containers) that would safely see us through the flight and to our car (where we had more).

We arrived in Tampa to be told that our flight had been cancelled and BA may not be able to get us home for 2/3 days!!!!! It was a nightmare. Our baby has quite a few problems and BA in Tampa were appalling, didn't care that I was distressed that our baby needed this to basically stay alive for the next few days. In the end they (reluctantly) gave us a voucher for a ONE way taxi fare to the nearest hospital.

We began our journey home on Saturday morning and eventually arrived home late Monday afternoon with my DD missing her 7th birthday and party.

I know that my case was slightly different, but all I would say is just be prepared and take plenty of formula and nappies for the journey home just in case you have a delayed or cancelled flight.

I would also advise you, if you have the room to take the formula that your baby is used to. My baby has been really poorly this week with her digestive system completely messed up due to completely different formula prescribed in the US. I would stick with what you and your baby know. It could make for a miserable time.

This is just my experience though and I'm sure others have bought over there and been fine.

We took our own, I wouldn't have known where to start with getting a different brand in the US and hoping he took to it ok

How many feeds a day are you on? We were on 3 and one large box of powder pretty much lasted the fortnight :)

:goodvibes

We also took our own and wouldnt buy it out there, nappies different altogether and we actually preferred huggies out there and bought a load back :-)

Thanks for all your advice! :thumbsup2 I think that we're going to take our own formula with us. It's abit difficult to know how many feeds she'll be on when we get there because she's only just over 5 weeks old.

Did you all just put the formula in the bottles and then make the bottles up at the parks or did you do something different?

We also took our own. We had to declare it on the customs form, they asked us at customs what the dairy item we were declaring was, when we said formula, they wrote on the form and told us to go see another guy. He asked us a few questions...no biggie, then we carried on our merry way. How old will your baby be when you go?

Oh and a previous poster mentioned the US pampers being not so good, in our experience they were pretty much the same, they also sell huggies swim nappies over there and huggies wipes.

The baby will be just over 3 months.

Our little one was just over 4 months when we took him to Majorca for two weeks last summer, I took four boxes of formula with me and think we only used about 3. Obviously as the baby gets older they take a greater volume of feed but then they feed less, so swings and roundabouts. When it. Got close to my holiday, I worked out how many feeds and how often my baby had them and then worked out how many feeds I would get from one box. I then took the right number of feeds plus extra in case of emergencies.

We took our own when we came last january. Baby formula is a lot more expensive in the US. We took ours in our hand luggage and main luggage.

I didn't formula feed Chloe at all so have no idea :rolleyes1 however if you take the tins of formula which I have read is suggested then put them in different cases so if you lose one case you don't lose all the formula.

I would also consider taking a good bit extra as the heat may make baby feed more too - a word with the Health visitor might be an idea to see if you can give a little water as it will be so hot?

I would also take nappies - found them to be quite expensive out there but I always used to stock here when they where on offer so paying full price wasn't something I was used to anyway :rotfl2: I used to spread them over the different cases as well.

Thanks for your advice. Just want to add that not all women are able to BF and unfortunately my DD is one of them, she BF as long as she was physically able and now she has no option but to feed her DD formula!

As the baby is so young I would strongly recommend taking cartons for the flight that you can just pour into the pre sterilised bottles and get heated. The powder formula is a bit of a nightmare.

My DD was both bf and ff and I took bottles on the plane for her - but they made me taste them before they would allow them on board! I would check with the airline whether you can carry cartons on board as I think there's an exception for how much liquid you can carry if its for baby milk, but I'm not 100% sure!

We preordered cartons from Boots airside at Manchester airport so I wasn't required to taste anything, took my bottles ready sterilised in my bag. We took 8 cartons with us! That should be plenty for a 3 month old in 8 hours!

I wasn't judging - just wanted to make a point I had no idea about the differences in formula. :)

For the flight you can pre-order cartons from Boots. Here are the contact details:
Boots Gatwick
Boots Manchester

On VA they will warm bottles and jars of baby food (I know your not going to need that this time but for future or anyone else who might be at that stage) for you in hot water if you ask the crew - DD used to like warm milk before bed as a toddler and they warmed that for me too. They used the hot water in what looked like and old ice cream tub (probably wasn't but a glance...)

Oh and virgin had baby food for us, although they didn't 'find it' until we were getting off but we used it in the parks :)

Thanks everyone for your help and advice, I sincerely appreciate it :thumbsup2 We're going to take our own formula and order some from Boots at the airport for on the plane (didn't even know that was a option!). Hopefully everything will go smoothly, but probably not with a 3 month old!

I reckon it will be much easier with a 3 month old than a slightly older child. They're much more portable at that age, and not so much into everything

I agree. We took DD at 4.5 months and it was the easiest trip we had with her. Easy to keep amused on the plane, to settle for naps etc. Not weaned yet so no hassle there. As DD has got older its been more challenging :)
