We are two weeks out from our Cruise on the Dream... March 2nd being so soon we are finalizing what we need to bring for our 9 month old son.

I have read that we can bring coolers for baby food. However - cruise critic had an article that says "Each night, dining room servers give children a kids' menu, Disney-themed activity sheet and crayons, and waiters have been known to help cut up kids' food or pour Mickey-shaped pools of ketchup. Baby food can't be brought onboard, but the kitchen can prepare pureed fruits and vegetables upon request. High chairs are, of course, available."

Our son primarily eats home made baby food, so the pureed fruits and vegetables would be fine. However - I want to bring enough baby food for if this is not an option.

Anybody have any experience or suggestions here?

Of course you can bring baby food! :) Whoever wrote that is mistaken. We brought food for our son because it was easier than asking for purees and making sure they were salt and sugar-free. Our little guy eats food at room temperature, but you can ask for hot water to put the jar/pouch in to warm it up if you like.

Factory sealed baby food and snacks can absolutely be brought on board. I would call them about bringing homemade food since that is not allowed (although they may make a medical exception for babies). You may want to bring some for excursions but in my experience they will make you anything. On our first sailing DD was a toddler obsessed with black beans. They had it waiting for her every single night when we entered the MDR (unfortunately a portion that could feed three adults, I hate wasting food). The key is good communication with your head server, letting him or her know your needs- how you want the food prepared, the temperature, etc).

Homemade baby food would be difficult anyway, because it would need to be kept at a safe temperature at all times, which could be a challenge. Not impossible, but probably not worth the trouble. I'm figuring the OP just mentioned the homemade food because that's essentially what the MDR would be making by pureeing food. But if there were a medical need, you're right--you probably could get permission.

If I had fed DS "baby food", I would have just had them make simple things, then I would get out my Happy Baby food grinder and mush it up right there. Easy peasy.

We will be bringing pouches and jars for sure. I have nursery scheduled for him at night during dinners.

Do you guys think that the purees would be available at breakfast/lunch?

I don't know that homemade baby food is allowed, since homemade food in general is not allowed. However, store-bought pre-packaged baby food is allowed. But keep in mind that there is no place to warm it (no microwave and the servers cannot take it to the kitchen). You can request a cup of hot water for warming items, if that helps. Or plan foods that would be eaten cold. The servers are wonderful about getting available foods pureed for a baby, just request it. You can have anything on the menu pureed for your little one.

Enjoy your cruise!

If you eat in the main dining room serving a la carte (not the buffet), I don't see why not.

There should be no issue for breakfast and lunch at the MDRs. Fruit and yogurt smoothies are on the menu for breakfast. There are less people in the MDRs for breakfast and lunch so you would be able to get special items quicker. I have seen special meals and requests in cabanas but it is so typically packed you may have to wait a while.

For breakfast and lunch, speak with your head server. They should be able to handle it like the do allergy food. You can pre-order it to the MDR or buffet with a time range. Be sure to do this for the Castaway Cay day so they can have it on the island for you.

So much helpful advice here... and none of this is online!

This also makes me feel better about paying a cruise fair for him! He gets to enjoy good cruise food as well.

We cruises last year when my son was 10 months old. It was easy peasy. He was eating whe food then too so he would eat a combination. But they offered everyday to get our preorder in for us and asked if we wanted it pureed. Like the PP said, the serving is huge. Not sure who they think these babies are. We would order plain peas somedays and plain garbanzo beans other days. I also know from this past year when I had to eat GF that you could preorder your meals to have in the buffet. So you just tell the head server or waiter what you wanted and when and they can have It there for your little guy. Have fun!
