Baby Ban On Airlines

My husband used to fly business class on Emirate Airlines, and the main reason was there were no screaming kids. So, if folks or companies are willing to shell out the big bucks for tickets, and so is a family, and they purchase a ticket and pay full fare, then everyone has the right to sit where they can afford to. I do not think that they should be able to hold the baby! He did say that everyone in business class was doing work, no one was relaxing or sleeping. My sister is an executive and she only travels by corporate jet as she needs to get work done, and she also needs to fly when she needs to go, not when the airline is ready. I am getting ready for a 2 12 hour flights in the next week, and I am hoping that the plane is not full of screaming kids! so this is a tough one, but the airlines can do what they want.

I'd pay extra to be assured no children or babies were aboard.

Kids are people too! I'll stand up for their right to be on a plane or an eatery or a store.

That being said, I don't want to be around a screaming kid any more than the next guy. But I think it is wrong to BAN them from a plane. Just because you can do something does not mean it should be done. Just because it's what the majority wants, does not make it right. Heck, just look at the South just 50 years ago. MOST of the people did not want little black children in their schools. Didn't make it right.

There, I've said my peace. Let the flames begin! I have on my flame resistant clothes and I'm carrying my fire-extinguisher.

Babies don't need to be EVERYWHERE. I like kid-free zones. You take the flight with all the screaming babies and I'll take the one without. :thumbsup2

Doesn't bother me at all. I think it would be nice to have separate childfree and family-friendly flights. Imagine a flight that features kids' movies, kid-friendly snacks, maybe some activities, a few seats with built-in carseats or bassinets, and cheaper seats for kids... wouldn't that be awesome? :thumbsup2

It's entirely up to the airlines to ban or not ban children. It's also up to you to either fly that airline or choose another one.

Will others follow suit? I guess it depends how they think it will affect their bottom line (which I gather has always been in danger anyway).

If someone is willing to pay enough for something (i.e., a baby-free flight) they will usually find someone willing to provide it.

DH's family has friends that live in Malaysia, and they are rather wealthy and are grandparent-age now. I wonder what the airline thinks the very wealthy families with babies are going to do for travel now. Families used to traveling 1st class are going to...just go with business or coach? Or perhaps switch airlines so they can be comfortable and with their families?

I can make a bet as to what they are going to do...

Ha! tlb you are an optimist. I'm thinking if they went that extra mile for the kids, it would be extra $$$.

I can see no lap kids in first class, if you want to ride you need to pay for a seat. I don't know about "no kids in first class" sounds like it's more trouble than it's worth.

Hire a nanny to sit in coach with the kids! :thumbsup2

I'm a flaming republican, and ITA :rotfl:. Wonder what the minimum age is? Can one year olds fly? Is two old enough? I didn't see the the details on age in the article Don't know why I feel this way, but it somehow seems to infer that babies are worth less than adults.

I find your lack of a sense of humor even more sad. :goodvibes

I really wasn't trying to attack you, but I guess I really didn't see the humor in that one. I actually have a great sense of humor most of the time :goodvibes. What you wrote reminded me of people I know who don't want to be with their kids - people who dump them whenever they can as fast as they can. That's why it made me sad - maybe its just my mood today.
