Baby Ban On Airlines

Doesn't bother me at all. I think it would be nice to have separate childfree and family-friendly flights. Imagine a flight that features kids' movies, kid-friendly snacks, maybe some activities, a few seats with built-in carseats or bassinets, and cheaper seats for kids... wouldn't that be awesome? :thumbsup2

:goodvibes I think that is a great idea! Maybe a DISNEY airline :thumbsup2

There really is no reason why you cannot have both. I agree with a PP Babies don't have to be every where :)

I'm a flaming republican, and ITA :rotfl:. Wonder what the minimum age is? Can one year olds fly? Is two old enough? I didn't see the the details on age in the article Don't know why I feel this way, but it somehow seems to infer that babies are worth less than adults.

Babies are not worth less than adults but they do not need to be everywhere. Sorry, but there are places that should be baby-free and if an airline wants to offer a baby-free first class, more power to them. :thumbsup2

While I don't like it, I'm guessing that this will work out well for the airline. Did you happen to see what their definition of a baby was?

No, I didn't see anything about their definition of a baby is in the article.

Reading further, it seems like the underlying issue is the airline not wanting to make bassinet space in first class. So, I'm guessing the age of a baby will be under one year.

I admit that I can understand how it would be upsetting, maybe even infuriating to pay for first class on a long flight and not be able to sleep.

Its not toally logical though because a 2-3 year old might be more obnoxious than an infant. When we flew home from Korea with our new 5 year old son, he was probably very difficult for many passengers. (He was certainly difficult for us ;)). We didn't fly first class, but I'm sure that there would have been some disappointed passengers if we had :goodvibes. What I'm saying is that if they are truly worried about their first class customers comfort, then they would probably ban all children under some older age than infant. It seems that the real issue is how many first class seats they can fit on their new planes. Regardless, this will make many people happy - and I do understand that.

I just don't like some of the general attitudes in society about babies and children - that's what made me uncomfortable with this.

While they are at it, some young kid/baby/toddler free restaurants would be welcome in my book.

I would love "adults only" flights, and "family friendly" flights. It would be wonderful to fly and not hear crying, screaming babies and toddlers or to not have a toddler kicking the back of my seat for the entire flight. :) And since we used to have "smoking" and "non smoking" sections in a restaurant and now it's all non-smoking, let's go "adults only" and "family" sections too. :) That would be awesome!!

And what would your ideal minimum age be for a flight? A restaurant?

Hmmmm, IMHO I would say at least age 4 or 5. Old enough for pre-school/Kindergarten. Old enough to be able to understand and follow directions. As in "don't kick the seat in front of you", "use your indoor voices", etc. Dreaming, I'm sure. But a girl can dream, can't she? ;)

My experience consistently in public is that the people who fail to keep their bodies to themselves and use their indoor voices are more often than not adults, than children.

I'd rather ride with kids than Ye Average Entitled Adult. At least you can generally hush a cranky two year old up with a bag of animal crackers.

I find the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Those same adults you describe are usually the ones who let their children run wild with nary a disciplinary tactic to be found.
