Not any new advise, but when first grandchild came along, I asked DD which car seat to buy and ask her to install it. I didn't want any issues that the one I bought wasn't good enough or I did it wrong.
And yes, as a cheap person, it was so hard to toss that car seat that was only used 50 times over the 7 years of use life.
