babies on cruises

A friend of mine and her husband just returned from a cruise (not Disney) with her 1 year old son. She said that it did not go as well as she hoped. Her main complaint was that they were kicked out of the pool because her son was wearing a swim diaper and that none of the public bathrooms on board had changing tables. How are Disney cruises for infants? She would like to try to cruise again soon and thought that a Disney cruise would be better suited for her needs. Has anyone sailed with a baby before? What was your experience?

Thanks.

Well even on Disney non toilet trained children can not swim in the pools. They can play in one of the mickey ears that has a small amount of water in them. I don't recall if the bathrooms had changing tables or not.

The "no swim diapers in the pool" is a Department of Health regulation and applies to all ships. One of the Mickey Ears is designated for children in swim diapers and has a water flow system designed to handle it.

Unless I am imagining it, I seem to remember those pull down changing table in the public restrooms. I didn't pay that much attention because my DS is 9 and it has been awhile since I have needed one but I am almost certain that they had them. Maybe someone with kids closer to that age remember?

Ya i would love to know the same thing bout the changing tables in the bathrooms...i mean it wouldnt be too much trouble to run back to the room...but just to know they are there if needed....how bout highchairs...can you have them sent to your stateroom or anything like that?? just curious

I know this is slightly off topic (as I am curious about the above questions, too), but what is the maximum number of weeks for pregnancy before you are not allowed to board the ship?

I seem to remember a changing table in the public restroom outside Animator's Palate. But I didn't look too closely or need to use it either. One of the Mickey ears is for the real little ones. There is enough water to get in and splash around. She should try again. She will enjoy it.

You cannot have entered your 24th week of pregnancy in order to cruise.

Thanks bunches for the answer to my question! :D

Anything we should know about, Melody? ;)

we brought my son when he was 3 months old and there were changing tables in the restrooms I went to.

We went last year with a 5 month old. We had a wonderful time, even though he couldn't get in the pools. However, we will be going again in May 2004 & he is now 16 months old. It may be a different story. He LOVES the water! Any suggestions as to things that would occupy him while we are at the pools? We also have an 8 year old, so I'm sure we will be at the pools some. I understand that he can get into the wading pool at the kiddie pool, but I'm not sure that will be good enough for him.

Thanks for any suggestions that anyone might have! I do think that DISNEY is the BEST cruise ship! (especially for people with kids.)

Melody I don't have PMS.
I just get miserable and my wife tells me to go for a walk and get over it... ;)
So what is the answer to the question? :)

Cheers,

:rotfl:
I hear men get a PMS-type of ailment monthly, too!

The answer to the question is -- that I ask you to keep your fingers crossed for us in the next few months. We need all the prayers we could get right now.

That's funny Grumbo, I get the same response here!!!

Yet another reason why we have decided to leave our 10 month home with her auntie!!! As much as I have learned from these boards, and as well as I know my little stinker, she would be bored and grumpy in NO TIME!!!::MinnieMo

We went on the Wonder when DS was 9 months. We found no shortage of changing tables in the bathrooms and some of them were quite nice as they were "built in". A high chair can be provided for your stateroom by your Room Attendent and you'll find one at your table each meal. The babysitting services at Flounders were amazing for our little one's needs. Dh and I had our first 'date' since he was born on that cruise...but we found that we hated him missing some of the fun stuff like the sail away parties...so we'd inevitably go and retrieve him from Flouders (we're such suckers!).

There was a good variety of finger foods such as Cheerios and fruit and since our son was going through the 'some pureed food - some jarred' stage, our servers were great about having some of his food pureed for us. He even had crackers awaiting him every evening.

The pool was not an issue with us in September, but like the above poster, I think it could be a little more difficult this time around. I plan to bring some cups from the Scoops or some other things to keep him occupied in the Mickey's Ear since he loves playing with the faucet at home. Hopefully, he will be too engrossed to notice the pool beside him  but we'll see.

All and all, we found the Wonder to be very baby friendly. Our son received no shortage of attention from all of the staff, the characters made a special effort not to 'scare' him and we appreciated the extra lengths (i.e. the diaper genie and our attendent setting up the pack and play every night) that Disney went through.

I hope this answers your questions!

Amy

We just suffer the symptoms from "other" carriers!!
