I know there was a big fuss here a couple of months back with Virgin changing it's baggage policy, and the suggestion was that all airlines would be following suit.

Well BA have followed with quite a significant reduction - on an economy ticket, you are limited to just one 23kg (50lb) case per person, and 2 cases on Plus / Club / First tickets. You are allowed a further piece of sports equipment per person, which means DF won't have a panic about his golf clubs (and that we can squash our excess baggage in his golf bag ;) ).

Luckily for most of us, travellers to the US are still allowed 2 pieces of luggage whatever ticket they have :sunny: but no case can be over 23kg.

The full baggage policy can be found here :- http://www.britishairways.com/travel/bagpolicy/public/en_gb

It's a "simpler policy" - yeah !! I can understand Health and Safety only allowing a maximum 23kgs, but how does only allowing one case make it "simpler" - it just makes it cheaper! :confused3

got an e mail from ba about this yesterday,

i wouldnt be happy with one bag each lol, but then i was an over reactor on the virgin reducing there and now I am back with them

Just means we will all have to leave the kitchen sink behind now - just have to convince Julie not to take her usual 17 handbags

Go out empty - come back full ... that's what we do!

Although cutting it to one bag each is going to be a pain.

Golf clubs are very useful to take, as you can pack plenty of new clothes, shoes etc into the outer carry case. Great, as it serves two purposes. Extra protection for the golf clubs, and of course, more space for all that extra spending!!!

That's a shame, but not unexpected I guess.

Thanks for posting!

Ah But Johnny, if she doesn't take them she'll need to buy more over there ;) , which would you prefer?

We've never had more than one bag each as checked luggage - but there's no way either were under 50lb last year!

I see from the BA site that for the US it is still two bags but they have reduced the weight:

*World Traveller passengers travelling to or from the US, Canada, Caribbean, Nigeria, Brazil and Mexico will continue to be allowed two checked bags in line with the local government regulations.

I'm fascinated that it is local government regulations that say you can have two bags!
