I am going to buy one of these next week and for those that own one I wanted to get some opinions on how you like yours? Pro's and con's. Thanks

DD got one and just loves it! She's very happy with it. But won't share! :lmao:

My mom has a Kindle and she loves it. Any reason why you're going with the Nook over the Kindle?

I ordered my Nook before Christmas and got it middle of January. I have about 120 ebooks on mine, mostly science fiction books I got from www.webscription.net - they have a great free library.

I like the fact that it can operate over both 3G and WiFi. I read on it just about every day. Very satisfied with it.

Check out http://www.nookboards.com/forum for a great nook discussion board.

I just went through the e-reader research and purchase phase myself. The nookboards website is great for getting real-life opinions on the product.

Check both B&N and Amazon and do e-book browses on the types of books you plan to buy. To me, this is the real difference between the products, as both offer 3G, wi-fi, the ability to synch other documents and pictures, mp3 files, receive emails with documents, etc.

Ours is coming today! The fact that the Kindle can't read ePub files is what swayed us.

Kindle is 3G only, no WiFi. Nook does both. Neither are email-enabled (yet, but that is probably coming)

True, the Kindle is 3G, but it's global and each kindle has its own email address for documents and files. The nook has wifi but it cannot be configured to work with paid wifi services.

There's a hack for it that allows you to listen to Panora radio. Eventually they'll have it figured out so it will do any Android app.

Thanks everyone. I am about 90% sure I am going to get one next week. Now I just have to convience myself to spend the money. :goodvibes

The Nook site (B&N) has all the books I want. Plus I like the idea that I can go into a store an play with it before I buy one. For that kind of money I want to test one out first.

Another vote to check the reviews. I am thinking one of the consumer magazines rated the Kindle higher than the nook for a variety of reasons, one being the solvency of B & N.

I have a Kindle and a friend has the nook. I had a chance to play with it and I will take the Kindle hands down over her nook.

I like the nook as I can go into Barnes and Noble anytime to get a book and sit and read - especially if I have to leave the kids off somewhere near by and I can go and wait in B&N and read. I would love to purchase one - was hoping for one for Christmas but didn't get it.

I'll take my Kindle over a Nook ANY DAY! IMO the Nook is much slower, not as user friendly, and has way too many glitches to be considered reliable. I have heard of too many people who's Nooks suddenly lose their "bookmarks" and all of a sudden their trying to figure out what page they were on in a 500+ page book:scared1: It also loses your notes, and the battery life is no where near as good as Kindle.

My husband bought me a nook for Christmas (I opened the case on Christmas morning and it came in mid January) and I LOVE it. I have not experienced ANY of the problems listed in this thread. I have gone into Barnes and Noble and love that I can download freebies and read any book that I want. You will love your nook!

I have a Kindle, but have friends with Nooks. Either is great. I much prefer reading from the Kindle (over paper books), and being able to carry many books on business trips is awesome, as I am an avid reader.

The downside to e-readers - you have to turn them off during take-offs and landings in airplanes... :headache:

When it was released and the software was version 1.0, the nook would not retain bookmarks. That was fixed a few weeks ago with a patch. Works fine.

I have gotten 9 days of battery life out of my Nook. If I need to charge it, it connects to the USB of my computer to charge (it also shows up as another USB drive so I can load files, pictures and music to it), or I can charge it with the USB to AC adapter that comes with it.

As for the WiFi, my Nook works with my WiFi connection at home, at my office, and if I take it into a B&N store, it is preconfigured to find their WiFi as well.

Kindle is a fine device and I was fortunate to get to try out a friend's Kindle. I was more impressed with the feature set on the Nook, and knowing it was Android, apps are already coming.

Your mileage may vary.

Before I touched either Nook or Kindle I was leaning towards the Nook. I liked the idea of the touch screen instead of the keys. I found the same to be true about the slow speed of the Nook. The touchscreen was a great idea in theory but it was laggy and not reliably responsive. Over all, the Kindle was faster across the board.

Also, the newspapers I typically read were only available on the Kindle and not the Nook. I browsed both B&N and Amazon for the books already in my library to determine which seller offered more of what I typically bought.

As far as the other things... I don't need my e-reader to perform the tasks that my phone and netbook do. I want a device that allows me to read whenever and wherever I want. I also use it to hold documents I need often, and things I bring home from work to read rather than printing them out.

Regardless of the e-reader you choose, just do your research to pick the one that works for you!

I got my Nook about a month ago and have enjoyed it very much. I am an avid reader and was not thrilled with the idea of reading from anything other than a real book. When I was blessed with a large amount of BN Gift Certificates, I thought it would be a good time to try out the Nook. I have to say, I enjoy it very much, not for any of the technical reasons previously discussed, but because it is easier to handle while reading in challenging situations. I love holding it on the treadmill, much easier than a book. I also find it easier to read in bed and enjoy the ability to turn on my side to read. The idea of having a book with me at all times thanks to the small size is so appealing. On a two week vacation last summer, I packed 6 books and still had to borrow one! This time, I will just pack my Nook! Enjoy!

Thanks everyone, this has been very helpful. Over the past week I have researched 3 different e readers I would like. Now I just have to pick one. I really appreciate your opinions, they have been very helpful.
