A Whole New World Trip Report, Day 2, Part 2, World Showcase and Illuminations!
Im shortening the Title out front, its too long.
Whos involved (you notice I do not say who went!)
Me (GeorgiaAristocat), 35, obsessive planner who hasnt been to WDW since 1976 its a whole new world!
DH (today hes Slowpoke again), 33, hasnt been to WDW since @ 1988 and then for only a few hours
DD (FearlessOne), 3, rocks between being a fairy princess, drama queen, and tomboy, not afraid of anything (unless she feels like screaming).
DS (SnuggleBuddy), 15 mos old, umbilical cord is about 1 mm long total mamas boy, also likes to scream and doesnt require fright to do so.
Nana keeper of FearlessOne and SnuggleBuddy while Mom and Dad play at the world!
We headed to World Showcase to eat, missed the Friendship boat, so walked quickly to Morocco (basically walking through Canada, UK, France, etc, without stopping, looking, or noticing anything except the bathroom that Brian decided he needed on the way). Slowpoke was not slow on this walk. It proves that he can move quickly when properly motivated. Apparently I do not properly motivate him, but food does. We shared a Lamb platter from Tangeriene Café. See Restaurant reviews for a food analysis!
Okay, it is at this point in my report that I realize that I have failed to mention a big part of our trip. The bathrooms. Of course Im serious. Slowpoke has one part of his body that runs fast. You guessed it. It is not aided by the fact that he likes coffee. A lot. We know what coffee does do the part of his body that runs fast. When hes not drinking coffee, hes drinking water. Add to this that even under the best of circumstances he never comes close to resembling a camel. He visited many restrooms, some more than once, depending on where we were. I should include a daily bathroom count, since it might explain why we lost an hour of touring time each day, but I dont want to freak anyone out. Oh, who cares about freaking anyone else out, from now on Im including a bathroom count.
After putting sustenance in our bellies (bathroom), we wandered at a much more leisurely pace around world showcase. In Japan Slowpoke decided I should do the pearl thing (feeling a little guilty about those new sunglasses arent we?). We watched several people before us, one got small twins, one got a blue pearl, one got an extra-large pink (7 ¾ mm). So, I picked a lonesome little oyster hanging out all on his own. It was a 7 ¼ normal silver-white pearl. Very pretty, and then I picked a setting. Can you believe that we didnt take any pictures of the whole opening the pearl thing? Ill have to let FearlessOne do this next year. Ill take pictures then. And get more jewelry. Slowpoke decided that he really liked the Bonsai trees and wanted to grow one (perhaps the pace of growth appeals to him), but I convinced him to wait until we came back that evening since we were going to be eating at Teppanyaki. We also got to Japan just as the character bus was pulling up, so we were right on hand to meet Goofy, Donald and others. It was here that we started photopass (that continues to drain my wallet of money almost a month after our trip. Theres no escaping throwing money at Disney.)
We went to America and each got a Mickey bar (bathroom). Slowpoke forgot to pick up napkins, though, so it got a little messy. Then we caught the Voices of Liberty and saw the show. I took a picture next to the Walt Disney quote inside the lobby/rotunda. Very entertaining show, and I especially enjoyed the singing. (bathroom). While Slowpoke was on his obligatory bathroom break, I looked around the gift shop. Found some things I thought about buying, particularly the pressed penny book. I had read about the whole pressed penny thing before leaving and decided that this would be my real souvenir. I had quarters and pennies stacked up in mini M&M tubes, and was slowly collecting them. Slowpoke thought I was crazy the first few times, then started to get interested with me in picking out what designs to get. I decided that I didnt need to spend $6 on a pressed penny book and left with my Key to the World card intact.
We continued wandering through the shops in Italy and Germany (bathroom), got dizzy in the film in China (darn 360 films) and then rode Maelstrom in Norway and went through the shops (bathroom). Slowpoke really wanted to see the Humans are Evil and responsible for every bad thing that has every happened film in the Land (oops, sorry, I mean the Circle of Life), so we headed back to Future World before supper. We grabbed another Fastpass for Soarin, saw the Humans are Evil film (bathroom), saw Honey I Shrunk the Audience and played in Innoventions briefly before our fast pass time. Rode Soarin for the third time (second row, left). I dont think I could ever get tired of this ride. [I pause and note that I must have something out of order, because I know that we rode Soarin four times on this day, but cant figure out where in the above sequence the fourth ride was. Anyway, we were in the bottom row in the center at some point too.] (Oh, and, yeah, bathroom. We are very familiar with the bathroom right outside Soarin. That one was used each time we rode, I think, sometimes twice.)
We then headed to the Friendship Dock to go to Japan for supper. On the way, the friendly boat pilot told us that Epcot stands for Eisners Polyester Costumes of Torture. Something I didnt know. We checked in at the restaurant @ 10 minutes before our ADR time. Then waited. And Waited. (bathroom) And Waited. It was at least 25 minutes before we were seated at a table with a very nice family from Philadelphia and two random women at the other end of the table that we never spoke to. Dinner was delish. Then we went downstairs, picked up my pearl, and had Slowpoke pick out a Bonsai (one of the little ones). He looked at every box before deciding. In deciding to buy the less expensive, but much smaller Bonsai, I knew that despite Slowpokes apparent interest, I would end up being the one to repot, trim, train, and otherwise care for this tree. Slowpoke will claim all the credit, and tell everyone that the Bonsai is his. (BTW, the repotting has already been accomplished. Wagers as to who did it? The search is on for an inexpensive but thorough book explaining the care and training. More wagers about who is doing the searching?)
Then we walked through World Showcase (bathroom) and attempted to find a spot to watch Illuminations. Slowpoke found a stand selling what purported to be Capuccino and decided to have one. I bantered with the young man behind the counter wearing an apron that said Jessica. He was from Brazil, but had been living in Florida for several years. He did not intend to return to Brazil. He LIKES it in America. (Wait, this is a trip report, not a political statement, Im putting away the soapbox before even pulling it out.) We found a good spot about 15 minutes before the start of Illuminations right near the handicapped section by the Friendship dock. Well, it was a good spot until about five minutes before the show when the giant showed up and stood directly in front of my 5 foot 2 body. It was even less of a good spot when he put his child on his shoulders. Ah, well. While waiting a lovely older couple struck up a conversation. They were locals who just liked to come out for the show. What a retirement life!
After watching Illuminations, which was a good show, we joined the crush leaving Epcot (bathroom), we rode back to the resort standing, took a shower (bathroom) and were in bed around 11 p.m.
How many bathroom stops is that? Im sure I missed a few.
Tomorrow: Animal Kingdom!
