Isn't that just unbelievable?! That's on Galveston Island and it's just completely wiped out- it's horrible. I was born on Galveston so I have a certain affection for the place, it's just so sad.

AWM- I am sooo glad you have power again!! BIL and SIL are still without, which is fine with me, she is helping me get tons done!

Power & phone.

Have lots to catch up on, but Little Bit has a soccer game so I have to leave in a few.

First, thankfully it wasn't the whole roof. Just the roof vent covering. So there was a gaping hole through the whole top of the roof of the garage. Wind died down enough that evening for DH to get up there and nail it back on. It was a single long piece. That wasn't fun to help lift up, but our house is dry.

Getting gas was the longest ordeal. Roads totally blocked in one direction, interstate not able to get on going south, going north there was no power so no gas, going east the lines were super long. He ended up going back east and just sucked it up and waited in line. Having the generator saved my sanity.

Boys went back to school today. Half the students and staff are still without power. Having fresh ground coffee and a hot shower made today wonderful.

I can't sew with a machine, but I can hand sew a quilt which would be appropriate for playing Amish. My Eldest was just so excited when the power went out. He was like "Woohoo! We can be Amish!" Uhm, honey, the Amish don't have TV & they don't shoot aliens in Halo. He was Killer Amish for a while. I just don't know where he gets that sense of humor from.

Thank you all so much for the well wishes and cyberhugs. Tinker kept me updated with your thoughts. It helped lots. I missed you all so much!!

I wanted to send you a camp stove and propane and a solar shower but DH said the P.O. probably wouldn't approve of the propane and it was probably still cloudy so a solar shower wouldn't work. Isn't practicality poopy?

So happy to see you posting. I imagine you were going crazy with no imaginary friends to talk to!

Wow, AWM!! It sounds like you've been through quite an ordeal! Just reading this thread now. Glad you're back with electricity, repairs on the way, and phone service!!

Ike really played havoc up hear in the midwest, in addition to Texas. There was so much flooding in our area, too. The last of the affected Interstates just reopened this afternoon here. We started out trying to drive, of all things, Saturday morning to a music school and then couldn't get any further after a half hour from my house and had to come back home.

Got lots of friends in Texas and it's just a mess down there. I feel so bad for all of them.

Anyway, glad things are getting better for you there!

Living without power is a nuscience, but at least we all up here have roofs over our heads. And we are dry. We only had a sprinkling of rain that Sunday.
