Dh and I spent the day at Disney today (had a nice day out!) We had lunch at the Kona Cafe, spent the afternoon at EPCOT and decided to visit the BW for a drink. We put our name in at the Big River Brew restaurant and contacted SSB to see if he wanted to join us for a drink. We were told it would be a while before we would be seated, so we found a place to hang out near the restaurant while we waited. We love to people watch and we were not disappointed tonight!
DH noticed a woman with a gorgeous tan, very nice figure, short blonde hair, very nice black and white print strapless sundress and NO shoes. He couldn't miss her because she was acting a bit odd (drunk?) as she sat down, or rather dropped down on her bottom in front of a large flower box in front of the Big River Brew place. Then she sort of sauntered over to the podium (where there was a long line of people waiting to put their name on the wait list) and we saw her chat with one of the restaurant employees. She appeared very drunk. She was waving her hands about and then bent her leg up and grabbed her ankle and said something about not having any shoes on.
We weren't sure what the point was, but the person she was talking to immediately seated her at an outside table.
The woman sat there for less than a minute, then made a show of heaving her large purse on the table, secured it's position on the table top and then gestured to the gentleman who sat her that she was going to enter the restaurant. Several minutes later she returned to the table and was joined by a young man who looked to be between 7 and 10 years old. About 5 long minutes later a gentleman her age joined them both at the table (she and this young man looked to be in their mid to late 20s). The boy with them looked embarassed and the young man with her looked like he wanted to leave.
When she was initially seated, the man who seated her told her that her server would be with her shortly. Soon after she was joined by the two men in her life, a woman from the pub came out to tell her that she could not be served if she was barefoot. She politely explained that they could not serve her if she was not wearing shoes. The woman with no shoes argued that she had been there for over 40 minutes and that it didn't matter if she didn't have any shoes on. A "discussion" followed and their voices both began to rise. The manager was trying her best to handle the situation politely, but the shoeless customer was not ready to cave into the pressure. She confessed that she had tipped the gentleman who had seated her and the manager asked him it if was true! He sheepishly confessed that yes, he had accepted money from this lady. The manager asked him to hand over the tip money. It appeared to be $40. The (drunk) woman accepted the money at first, then demanded another $5 that she claimed was part of her table tip! Her gentleman friend and the young boy tried to convince her to leave the area, but she was adamant that she was due an additional $5.00!
The manager was polite but firm and told the (drunk) lady that if she didn't leave she would be forced to call security. The (drunk) lady insisted that security be called! She stood there, shoeless and almost topless (did I mention it was a strapless dress?)
and waited for security to show up. She also exchanged nasty four letter words with the manager, who was nothing but firm and polite with her response as she explained that people in the area were trying to enjoy their drinks/meals.
Eventually security came and convinced the woman to leave. It was so embarassing for the young boy. He looked utterly ashamed. What a horrible situation! We could not understand why she would tip someone $40.00 to be seated with no shoes when she could have run into a nearby store and purchased an exclusive pair of Disney flip flops for about $12.00!!!
Anyway, an hour after this drama we were seated at a table outdoors. We enjoyed a few beers, SideShowBob was able to join us for a beer or two and we told him about this funny drama and a good night was had by all (all wearing shoes, that is!)
As far as we know, no horses took part in the consumption of alcoholic beverages tonight!
