Awkward Character Interactions. Share yours!

My autistic nephew hadn't expressed any interest in any characters, so we were surprised when he saw Chip and Dale outside FOTLK, and he just ran up to them. He had completely cut the line and came up through the exit route, so we're trying to grab him and apologize to the next family in line. The handlers indicate that it is okay for DN to say hello, and so he goes up to them, looks around, and then loudly starts crying "Where's Alvin?" Whoh-doggy, we got outta there fast!

We met Minnie and Pluto (and one other) in the Disney Visa card meet and greet and my then three year old daughter ran up to Pluto and threw her arms around him. Her head was pressed right into his crotch. She took a big whiff and proclaimed loudly, "Ooh, Mommy, he smells good!" The characters "laughed," with Minnie covering her mouth and Pluto slapping his thigh. Probably was awkward for the characters, but they responded well.

Our 4 year old DD visited Tinkerbell in her Tinkerbell dress last summer as we entered MK and then went to see Merida. Merida asked her about her about her dress and if she just came from visiting Tinkerbell. My daughter replied "yes, she had titsie dust". Merida was trying her best not to bust out laughing and sort of broke character a little bit discussing the "titsie" dust with my wife which we have never seen before.

you should have totally said something about motorboating and how hard it was getting the titsie dust off your face.

last Jan, my brother and I met Cinderella's step sisters at MK. they completely forgot about me and were all over him. when he tried to get them to notice me, one goes "who care about your wife, you got us now."
...talk about awkward.

My wife and I did a trip sans kiddos -- and I was trying to get a funny photopass picture. While in line, I told my wife that I was going to do a fake proposal to ariel and that I wanted to her to act real mad and pose for the camera. Only problem was that I didn't tell the CM handlers and photographer about the plan.

We got a few normal pictures and while Ariel was doing her normal chit-chat, I go down on one knee with the fake proposal. My wife completely freezes and refuses to participate, Ariel says something along the lines of "I don't even see a ring...how can you propose without a ring." I held the pose for a while to give the photo guy time...despite it being super awkward at this point. I'm thinking we could always photoshop the ring in later and it would make for a funny picture. Unfortunately, the photo guy never even took a picture so it was all for naught.

Our Kylo Ren meet and greet was very awkward. Maybe he was trying to say something to us, but it seemed that he was just breathing loudly and we all (me, DH, and three kids and KR) stood there looking at each other. Quick picture and I was ready to get out of there, but not before Kylo Ren had the handler cornered against the wall. I guess she (he? I don't even remember, it was all so strange) had made him mad. We all decided we won't meet him again!

Mine was with Br'er Bear many years ago. It started off normal, but then he decided to start trying to slow dance with me, which again, not bad, but then suddenly he whispers in my ear "I love you." I was so shocked I just immediately responded with "thanks, I love you too?" HA. Yeah, I just made awkward even awkwarder.

One day I was at MK and it was my Bday. I was wearing a happy birthday button, and i decided to go meet Anna and Elsa in princess fairy tale hall because they did not have a very long wait. I am not really the biggest frozen fan but i decided to go see them anyway. I was by myself because it was late and I really dont mind doing short solo trips at night. When i got up to Anna she said to me "All alone on your birthday? That"s kind of sad" and i was like uhh ok and she never smiled. She asked me for a picture and i declined and went to wait for Elsa. It was awkward because i could not believe she said that and i did not know how reply. While i was waiting to meet Elsa an attendant said "hitting the parks solo is my fave cause you can do anything you want" so i assumed she must have heard what happened. Overall a pretty bad experience

I'll never forget it, because it was my very first trip to WDW in 1992. I was posing for a pic with Eeyore and I *hope* the guy in the costume didn't know, but he had his paw on my backside and was patting it. I think he thought it was my back. I ignored it as best I could, but all of a sudden this little kid yelled, "Mom, Eeyore is touching her butt!" I died.

We didn't realize it until we were looking at the picture later, but my 4 year old DS had his hand on Pinocchio's crotch while giving him a side hug.
Same visit, Peter Pan was really into character, and was asking me all kinds of silly questions. It made me feel really awkward and I wasn't sure how to play along.

On one of our recent trips, we met Tiana in Princess Fairytale Hall. 4yo DS was right in front of me, and Tiana went to give him a hug. I totally reached in and gave her one, thinking she was leaning in for me. She sort of awkwardly obliged. By the time I realized that she wasn't meaning to hug me, it was too late. I did apologize afterward and she was super nice about it, but I was embarrassed for the rest of the experience.

Easter Sunday. Liberty Tree Tavern. Sometime around 2000.

Goofy took a liking to my mom and was giving her extra attention throughout the meal. Finally, he ended up doing a mock striptease. I mean he really was - pretending to unbutton his clothes and waving a napkin over his head dancing in front of her. So bizarre and hilarious. Our table of 10 was ROARING. it was awkward for my mom but hilarious to all of us!

Edited to add: A woman at the table next to us scolded my dad on the way out for the "raucous laughter" at our table. We were all thinking two things - why would you go to a character meal on Easter Sunday if you weren't expecting raucous laughter, and don't take it up with us, take it up with stripper Goofy!

Not awkward so much as odd and a bit annoying. We met Goofy at breakfast at Cape May and he was very playful and encouraging my son to play with his whiskers and things like that. Later that day we meet Goofy at Tusker House and he was not playful at all, but my son was doing the same things he had done that morning including playing with his whiskers and Goofy scolded him (in a character sort of way with a step back and a wag of a finger) and I just made a light hearted comment about how Goofy had enjoyed that earlier in the day and left it at that and Goofy moved on pretty quickly. My son has known from about 4 years old that these are people in costumes (he figured that out on his own), so it wasn't like it was a magic ruining moment, but Goofy's grumpiness made for an unpleasant and a bit awkward moment.

20 years ago chef mickey bunch of unmarried 20 somethings and Minnie sits on my lap and starts feeling my arm muscles. I had a tank top on and was in better shape back then. Wasn't awkward for me I was flattered but the table next to us a little kid said mommy is Minnie cheating on Mickey....that was awkward kids say the darnest things

Probably far more awkward for the poor CM, but when we went in 2013, it was our first trip to the World in 8 years. There was a massive snow storm the day before and I was up all night shoveling the drive way and the street just so we could get out. We had a 5AM flight, so needless to say we looked pretty wired and crazy by the time we made it to a park. Our fist stop was Epcot and the first character we saw was Goofy and he was alone. The three of us screamed and ran up to him and hugged him all at once. In hindsight I'm sure the CM thought he was about to be murdered by this insane looking family, but I think it was after all the stress it was that moment we all realized we had finally made it to Diney.

She has never seen the movie, but we are going to the zoo/botanical garden this week to watch it outside.

I think we live near each other! I've never seen it (or been to their movie night events) but am excited for tonight!

This thread is pure gold!

Can't say as we've had any really awkward encounters, at least at Disney. There was this time at Universal when we were meeting Marvel superheroes at Islands of Adventure. My adult daughter mentioned to Rogue that she was my favorite comic book character and all of the sudden I've been grabbed by the front of my shirt and dragged into a photo op. Looked something like this:
