Mine was during MNSSHP one year, when I met Tarzan, Jane, and the monkey (Blanking on the name). I was on a solo trip, female, and had never seen the film. Was chatting away with people in the queue and suddenly it is my turn and there is Tarzan, in his loin cloth. I was not expecting it, and did not know where to look. Probably blushing as well as being completely tongue-tied. So I spoke mainly to Jane and there was poor Tarzan, going "hello, I'm over here. Me. Star of the film." Poor guy didn't know what to do.
New rule, no meet and greets with half naked men.

Honestly, I think all of the character interactions are somewhat awkward as adults. I've done them with the kids many times. I enjoy it for them, but just find it awkward interacting with what I know is a grown man/woman in a fancy Halloween costume pretending to be a fictional character.

I better explain the difference between a diaper and a loincloth before we go. I can see my 4 year old embarrassing us by asking why he is wearing a diaper.

She has never seen the movie, but we are going to the zoo/botanical garden this week to watch it outside.

Mine was with Peter Pan and it came on the trip after I got engaged. I approached him and he literally was going ga ga over my engagement ring. I couldn't stop laughing because his reaction was so over the top.

3 of us adult women entered MK early in the morning, and I assume we were headed to BTRR, as we entered Frontierland, it was deserted. We then saw Bullseye, alone, over on one of those side walkways over the water. We went over, and posed for photos. no one else was around. My one friend stood in front of him, and hunched over, hands on her knees, sort of. Bullseye stood behind her. It is the weirdest most awkward looking pose. And we had no idea it was so odd, until that night, in our room, we were looking at our digital photos. When we saw it, we were laughing so hard we were crying.

On a recent trip we met Jasmine, and DD (4) had her crown on and everything; but DD is VERY shy so she doesn't really talk to the characters. Most are good about just prattling on to her but Jasmine acted disinterested. On top of clearly being annoyed by a guest trying to get into the closed line and who kept opening this door they had to keep views of Jasmine to a minimum (she actually stopped in between guests to shut the door better, why the CMs that were there as handlers couldn't address the issue I don't know and that is probably part of why she was annoyed). Anyway, by the time DD, who was last in line to see her, made her way to Jasmine she did the obligatory photos; barely talked to her, didn't even encourage her to rub the lamp and left while the lamp was doing it's little deal. Considering DD had requested a Jasmine crown to wear I was rather upset with the entire interaction. Sorry, that's not really an awkward interaction, more like an annoyed Mommy at a poorly behaving CM interaction... probably the wrong thread to vent in

When I was 13, I had my first interaction with Aladdin and Jasmine. I had braces at the time, which I was obviously not insanely gleeful about. Jasmine, trying to keep with the theme, says "I see you have jewels on your teeth!"
Now, maybe this is a regular thing that she says to people with braces, but it's kind of an awkward statement. Not only that, but I didn't make the connection, so I ask, "What?"
What made this intensely amusing was the look of dread that she had as she realized that she would now have to point out the braces of a teen girl, without actually calling them braces, since she was not supposed to be familiar with what braces were. Never have I seen someone so clearly have a look of "I've made a grave mistake."
This was followed by a bunch of pointing at teeth and statements of, "Um...you know....your jewels." Needless to say, this did not help. The interaction stayed pretty awkward.

My son went through an awkward boob hugging, open mouth kissing phase when he was 2-ish. Thankfully the princesses were good sports!

I don't think this counts as "awkward" but when I was young (like 4) I threw up on Chip and Dale. I'm sure this happens often, though.

I always feel awkward when I meet a character that talks. I'm usually by myself, so I never know what to say! Lol!

I actually have had several awkward interactions. The first one was about 30 years ago when my friend and I were taking a walk around Epcot.
Goofy came walking by and "goosed" tickled us as he went by. My friend was furious but I laughed...way before political correctness was a thing. The second one was a dinner at the old Chef Mickey's for my 5 year old's birthday. At that time they would bring out a birthday cake with streamers hanging over it and burning candles. Well Mickey was motioning at me (couldn't talk to us of course) and I was waving back. He became more frantic and pointed at the cake on the table. The candles had set the streamers on fire. Turned out fine but poor Mickey!
A few years later (2002 or so) when my 2 DS's were 13 or 14 they wore lots of hair sculpting products...it was the style back then. We were at Liberty Tree Tavern and Chip or Dale came over and went over to my son and made a motion to muss his hair. I said "Better not do that", but he didn't listen. My son just glared at the character.
Another time we again were at LTT and this time we had brought a friend of my DS's so there were 3 teen boys at our table...two 16 year olds and an 17 year old. Well their friend (16) decided to "gently" hug Minnie's arm as she walked by our table. She wagged her finger at him as in "NO,no no". So embarrassing...he is actually a good kid but showing off.

Same - Called him Ben Solo and told him that it was not too late to turn back to the light. He was not entertained and made my wife and I leave the room.

We just met BB-8 on this trip, and that meet is super awkward. Like, can you touch him? How do I hug a circle on a pedestal? He just beeps and boops, and the poor attendant tries to make something out of it. My 2 yr old had a shy run this year with all characters, and LOVES bb8 so I was hopeful. This was just too weird.

Our 4 year old DD visited Tinkerbell in her Tinkerbell dress last summer as we entered MK and then went to see Merida. Merida asked her about her about her dress and if she just came from visiting Tinkerbell. My daughter replied "yes, she had titsie dust". Merida was trying her best not to bust out laughing and sort of broke character a little bit discussing the "titsie" dust with my wife which we have never seen before.

First time at Launch Bay and we get in line to meet Chewbacca. We get ushered in, turn the corner and there he is in all his 7' tall walking carpet glory...and I burst into tears. A 39 year old weeping fan girl. I was so excited, happy to meet him that I turned into a Beatles-era fangirl, just crying my fool head off. Chewie just growled and hugged me.

We met Baymax, and I walked up to him and asked him if he could do anything about my bad back. He just stood there awkwardly and did nothing.

Went next door to Joy and Sadness and we walked in and Joy immediately came running over and grabbed me by the hands and started jumping up and down in circles, twirling me. I had no clue what the heck was happening but just started laughing like a maniac...until my sunglasses flew off my head. I stopped to grab them, but Sadness had scooped them up...they had broken. My DH and Sadness were leaning on each other "weeping" for my broken sunglasses, but Sadness dusted them off and popped the lens back in and gave them back. The handler told me that Sadness is the "sunglasses whisperer".

Years ago on our honeymoon we were doing MNSSHP. By the end of the night we were EXHAUSTED. Determined to siphon every ounce of fun out of the night we went to the character meet in the big top (back when it was still Toontown Fair) and got in the line to meet a Disney character (back when it was random). Standing there in the line I could feel my own crankiness taking over due to the exhaustion, but we plowed on. By the time the door opened to let us in I was ready to just collapse. I hurried in to see who we were meeting, and it was some lame clown and a lion??? Who the deuce are these losers? I later learned it was Casey and Jojo whoever that is. I could not muster even the smallest bit of a smile or enthusiasm. The picture is hilarious...I look like there is someone holding a gun to me off camera. I didn't even say anything to the character. Just walked up, turned and faced camera, and walked out....stomped out actually.

Lol I also called him Ben and asked him why he killed his dad. The cast member was like "oh... that's not wise." He stared at me for what felt like forever and I actually felt scared.

Same! I actually avoid meeting face characters because it's just awkward. The worst was when I met one of Tinkerbell's friends at Pixie Hollow in DL and I had absolutely NO idea who she was or what movie she was from. She kept making references that went right over my head.

On this last trip we did a dinner at Cinderella's Royal Table and I felt like all of our interactions with the princesses were "off". That confirmed to me that I'm too "old" for stuff like that. However I love meeting fur/masked characters like Winnie the Pooh because it's fun to hug them and watch them mime stuff.

My first solo meet with a female character was with Elsa. I had literally taken my kids to meet 100+ characters. I was there for a half marathon by myself. I had no issue with the masked characters either but when it came to meeting a female, I did not know where to stand or what to do. I did not want to be some creepy guy. Elsa was very helpful and just looped her arm through mine for the picture.
