Awful experience at The Sci-Fi Dinner

I recently was fortunate enough to stay at Disney for 10 days and had a great trip. However, my one bad experience was the Sci-Fi Diner at MGM. I ate their for dinner one night and the food was so bad that we couldn't even eat it. We left and ate somewhere else. I didn't complain because I was so disgusted I wanted to get out of there. The bill was over $70 for the three of us. Two adults and one 9 year old. The service wasn't bad, although rushed, but the food was not even edible.

If you want a great restaurant in MGM go to The Brown Derby. We had an excellent meal there and it was only $10 more then the Sci-Fi Dinner.

The atmosphere is really cool in the Sci-Fi but the food was the worst.

Can you tell us what you ordered? Did the CM notice none of you ate your food?

I had the fried Catfish and the hushpuppies were hard as rocks. My daughter had ribs that were cooked with Cook horrible. My wife had the pork medallions also horrible. Actually the only good thing we had was the onion rings as an appetizer.

To answer your second question the CM was in such a rush that he didn't even notice that the plates were full when he took them away. In hindsight I should have complained, but I just wanted to get ouf of there. The place was packed and the CM was very busy so I just chalked it up as a bad dinner. I personally don't like sending food back especially since all three meals were terrible. I wouldn't want to eat there after that.

Some really enjoy the food here, we ate a meal there once and although it was not horrible it by no means was anything we wanted to endure again.

It's a very cool unique place so we do return for desserts only.

I hate you had a bad time. I am also one who will not complain. There is no telling what a cook will do to your food when you send it back.

I feel Sci-fi is a lunch place. they do burgers, and onion rings and shakes ok. Even at dinner, you would not get ribs, and fish at a drive in. I feel like they should keep to the Drive-in theme all day long. I would eat dinner there if they had their lunch menu at dinner. I don't always want a big dinner at dinner time. thats why I just eat the appt. at lot of rest. for dinner.

We like the fries, onion rings, and shakes....maybe even a burgeer...but that is about the total of what we will order...

I'm not one to complain usually either, but I can't imagine spending $70 on inedible food either. Sorry you had such a bad experience. Hope wherever you went afterwards was much better.
:(

We didn't hate the food there, but we were not happy with the experience. The food is the most overpriced on the property. The cheesy sci-fi clips were too stupid for adults but too scary for young children.

Oh, I hate to throw away money like that! I wish you would have checked these boards before eating there. It's well known around here that the ONLY things you should order there are burgers, onion rings and maybe shakes. One year, my kid who will eat anything ordered their spaghetti and said it was the worst thing he's ever ordered in his life and he did not eat it. It was soon after that we started noticing the folks here on the DIS were telling others only to order the basics at Sci-Fi. Now that we follow that advice, we have been happy eating at Sci-Fi.

Ok, so I have a PS booked for Sci Fi dinner the first week of November. It was my DD age 8's request. She liked the way it looked. We've never eaten there.

What should we do? I don't want to break in the middle of the day for lunch...maybe a late lunch?

Do you need PS for just dessert?

What should I do to check it out but not eat gross food?

My DD loves this restaurant so we usually go ever year. I have learned that you never go for dinner. Always lunch and just stick to the basics.

Hamburgers & fries....

We just go for the atmosphere, oh yeah and those $5.00 glow in the dark ice cubes.

I would have complained! I won't throw money away like that.

Sci-Fi is great for an afternoon snack or dessert. Their treats are yummy. But I do not care for their food at all. If I had lunch there, I'd stick to a burger with fries or onion rings. There is not much you can do to mess those up.

think the "gross food" is a given:)
we got a burger and soup which was ok but expensive, about what we would have gotten at mediocre counter service ....except a larger check ... $25 + for 1 burger fries, 1 soup and 2 sodas without fancy cubes:) ! the worst thing imo was not the food though but the wait ! it took us over 2 hrs with ps and a late ( off) time in Jan to get into and eat there in the 1/2empty rest...so not sure why the long long long wait which might make me rethink dessert due to the wasted ( & i do mean wasted) time..it's "cute" but not "that" cute!

I think the seats are uncomfortable too. This place really has it all!

I tried DD's spaghetti a couple of trips ago, and it truly was the worst sauce I've ever tasted. I don't even know how to describe it - bad tasting watered down ketchup?

Burger was fair. We weren't that impressed the onion rings though - most people rate them high. We thought they were just okay.

I actually liked it better than Mama Melrose and I thought the atmosphere was better than 50's PT. If I want to get yelled at for not finishing my dinnerI can eat at my mother's for free.

I guess I'm in the minority, but we ate lunch at the Sci Fi in May for my 9 y/o's birthday at his request. I had a chicken sandwich, my dh had a rueben and the boys had burgers and shakes. We thought it was pretty good! The kids loved the atmosphere, my dh and I enjoyed having a quiet meal with our kids (they were totally engrossed in the movie clips) and we actually were able to sit together for a change, which was so romantic

Anyway, I'm one for "don't knock it till you've tried it" so I'll try anything once regardless of what the majority says!

Thanks for all the info on Sci-Fi Dinner my DH and I was going to try this place in Oct when we go. We just said the other night we never in all the times at WDW we never tryed it and was thinking of doing it this time. I think I will stay with going to the Brown Derby which is my Favorite place in MGM.

Have never had dinner there, however, we do go every visit (7 years now) for lunch. We stick with onion rings, a house salad and either a burger or the catfish. Have never had poor service or bad food. Always make an EARLY p.s. because I suspect they prepare things in advance and keep them warming. I am so sorry for your expense. Must have really dampened your day. Thank you for posting though. People need to know and I have read many similar posts especially regarding dinner. Just wish you had complained. The lawyer in me would have and gotten my money back.
