Awful experience at The Sci-Fi Dinner

oh yea. I eat there on everytrip, I just would not eat dinner there. I would either make it a very early lunch late breakfast, or early dinner late lunch.

If some one has long hair in the car infront of you, make sure you ask for another car.

The sci-fi clips.... I have seen most of those movies watching MST3000 in college. THat was the funniest show.

I like the onion rings and the chili. The couple of times I ordered something different, (steak sandwich, burger) it was beyond burned. Yuck.

I think I am going to switch to Mama Melrose. I was having second thoughts before I read this thread and now I am convinced! ;)

Yes, I've read everyone's comments on these boards, but really wanted to try Sci-Fi on our upcoming trip. Tuesday, I made our PS for 4:15pm, to avoid sacrificing the parade and/or Fantasmic! Even though, according to Sci-Fi, we will be eating dinner, it will actually be a late lunch for us. One of us will probably order a sandwich, the other a salad, and split the two. Any suggestions? Also, can you get the shakes to go? Thanks! :D

If you are going to eat at Sci-Fi I would suggest trying the honey-glazed black forest ham sandwich. It is pricey for a sandwich, but DH and I both enjoyed it. You get rosemary potato chips with it. YUM!

We ate at Sci Fi and DS couldn't eat the ribs that he ordered. They were overcooked with very little meat on them. We had to get him something else to eat when we left. Other DS's meal wasn't too good either. It sounds like it is a lunch place for burgers and sandwiches. Still, we don't plan on going back.

:Pinkbounc :smooth: :Pinkbounc I totally agree that the food at the Sci/fi is the ultimate worst. I LOVE the the theme of the resturant though! This trip we will probably just stop by for a snack. My daughter wants to eat at the 50's resturant. Is the food any better there?

Ok, I don't know if anyone else is doing this or not. I tried and tried to think of a comfortable costume that me, both girls (9 &15) wouldn't be embarrassed to wear and that I could get hubby in that was cheap. So We're going to do a whole "slumber party" theme. We're wearing pjs, slippers and bringing small pillows. Cool and comfortable or what?:smooth: :Pinkbounc ::yes::

Cute. Just be sure no one will slip on those slippers. Teddy bears with straps will be easier to hold than pillows. If you're brave you'll do the cold cream and curlers. :)

check the dinner menu since if it's "dinner time " for them that means the dinner menu for you. i think there is only 1 sandwich on the dinner menu

If you must check this place out, definitely do lunch. That was my big mistake. I think for burgers and stuff it could probably be alright to check out the atmosphere, but I implore you to stay away for dinner. I usually can eat anything and I couldn't eat there.

My wife sometimes calls me a human garbage can, but eating garbage would be an improvement over the food we got that night.

LOL.

We just said the other night we never in all the times at WDW we never tryed it and was thinking of doing it this time. I think I will stay with going to the Brown Derby which is my Favorite place in MGM.

good choice!

I never figured out why people order anything but burgers and sandwiches? We ate there one afternoon during our last year Dec stay. We all got burgers, rubens fries and onion rings and shakes. They were all very good. I do not go to mcdonalds and order grilled chicken or fish. Why would you go to a diner and try to order the same thing. It is a nice place for a quick meal. And as far as the price, come on your at disney a bottle of water costs 3.50 so a sit down meal any sit down meal your going to have to take out a second mortage:p Don't go to the sci fi looking for 5 star cusine you won't get it but a good greasy clog your arteries cheese burge youll get:wave2:

I would honestly consider emailing guest services. There is absolutely no reason why you should have to fork out that kind of money for a terrible meal you were unhappy with.

We had a situation where I didn't say anything at the time because it didn't seem so bad, but when we left I thought about it more and realized I should have complained. So I emailed guest services and they called me. I very nicely explained my experience and she sent me Disney Dollars to cover the cost of the meal and we went back to the same place another trip to try it again (it wasn't much better, LOL). But, this type of money goes right back to them but it is like cash at WDW.

I would definitely consider contacting them, you have nothing to lose!

Okay, now i'm worried...:worried: we plan to go to Sci-Fi next year. What time does the lunch menu end? I try to eat about 3-3:30ish (late lunch/early dinner) for us. I am heading the warning about only eating burgers and such.....even if you get there at "their" dinner time, you still can't order a burger??

I''ve only had lunch there, burger and fries, but I think I remember reading on these boards once that you can request a burger at dinner. We ate here on our trip in 2003, and my son still talks about it. He liked it better than Mama Melrose, and quite honestly, so did I. (Although neither of them top Brown Derby, and we haven't tried Prime Time.) If you haven't tried it for yourself, I still would go. You can't beat the atmosphere.

Never had a bad experience with the food, but also will note that it's really nothing special. We LOVE the atmosphere and the theming. Interestingly, the first time we ate there 3 years ago, my friend ordered the pork medallions, which were actually very well prepared. We were probably very lucky. Sci Fi is one of our favorites for the atmosphere, but strictly food-wise it can be pretty sub-par.

Despite all this negative talk, I'm going to give it a try for lunch next month. We have done the 50's Primetime (it was fine) and want to try something else.
