Nine months ago, I decided I wanted to learn how to play the piano. I am 33. Figured I was too old, but what the heck. I bought an electric piano for around 1100 dollars. My teacher asked me why I wanted to learn, I told him I wanted to play music from The Phantom of the Opera. Well, I started on a book titled, "Teaching Little Fingers to Play." My lesson is one hour a week and I practice about 6 hours a week. I am on my third lesson book and can play some Bach, some Mozart, and a whole bunch of learning style songs. I know my chords and my scales. This Christmas, I was even able to play Silent Night and O Holy Night for my family. Well, last night, at my lesson, he put Music of the Night (from Phantom) in front of me and told me I was ready to start learning how to play this. It took me nine months. I must have been working on it for hours last night and this morning .... very exciting and just wanted to share with other music lovers out there. :cool1:

That's awesome!! :thumbsup2 :cool1: I wish my dd shared your enthusiasm for lessons....LOL.:rotfl2:

I had piano lessons as a child and gave them up after a few years because they were incredibly boring, including the music we were asked to practice and play. My mom told me then that it would be a lifelong regret for me if I quit, but I did it anyway.

I do wish I could play some instrument well enough to have fun, but more than 30 years later, I still do not regret my decision to quit those lessons!

I'm so thrilled for you, though, to finally be achieving a dream! How thrilling!

Congrats! Learning how to play the piano is both fun and a challange! It is such a joy to be able to play a piece of music that you've wanted to play. I'm sending you virtual support :goodvibes .

This is the song that I'm learning how to play : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTTrgENXHQA

After seven years of learning how to play the piano, I think its time to challange myself with an 8 page piece!

Congrats! Theirs no greater gift than a love of music - actual music. Glad you're enjoying it so!!!

I love that song! I have that cd and DW and I listen to it all the time ... even during the summer. I would love to play that ... but I am taking the slow and steady approach.

Congratulations, and as a piano teacher, I give you much credit for practicing so diligently. I have had a number of adult students over the years, and more often than not, they are terrible about practicing. I think it's because they need a mother to make them do it!

You're progressing beautifully, and I feel sure you have a lot of talent to go along with your good practice habits, from your description of how far you've come in your lessons. I hope you keep taking your lessons and working so hard. You'll always be glad you did!
