Awesome Crock Pot Deal

I braved the cold to get my Crock Pot yesterday--great deal!! Thanks OP.
Here's my new favorite soup recipe:
Taco Soup
1 lb. ground beef
1 med. onion
1 clove garlic
1 can stewed tomatoes
1 small can tomato sauce
1 can pinto or black beans
1 can shoe peg corn--make sure it's shoe peg
1/2 can Rotel tomatoes
1/2 envelope Ranch dressing
1/2 envelope Taco Seasoning mix
Salt and pepper to taste
Brown ground beef with onion and garlic, then put all ingredients in crock pot for 8 hrs. on low or 4 hrs. on high.

I got one that size for Christmas. I love it. I fill it to the top with potroast and veggies. And the kids have enough for 2 days:banana:

Thanks OP!
Thanks Pooh for the recipes!!!

I've been looking for a bigger size, and really wanted a programmable one, but the reviews were not that great on those fancy ones...I saw this one in the Sunday ad, and I was contemplating wheter to get it or not.

Thanks, I now have a more informed decision.

My smaller one is a programmable one. I hate it (the programmable part that is -- I LOVE the crock pot itself) and would never buy another one like that. I cook so many things on high for longer times than they allow with the program. I have to turn it off and back on again to get it to cook for as longs as I wanted. If I forgot, I would come home and it would be in "warm" mode. When I work outside the house it was a bit of a pain because if I stayed at work too long my food would not be cooking when I got home. Others may not mind that it limits the times for the temp settings, but I don't like it. Now, that being said, I saw a new one on the market this week that allows you so set the time independant of the temperature and that has appeal. However, it was quite pricey. I like this old fashioned "turn-the-knob-and-forget-about-it" style! Just my two cents.

Thanks to OP for posting. I am off to JCP Friday to get a new crock pot. Mine shorted out a couple of weeks ago, so I've been without. Yippee!

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the great recipes and to the op for the heads up. I called my JCP to see if they had any left and they knew nothing about them. She went looking for them once I pointed out it was in the add and found them. She said they were "stuck away" and she saved one for me and one for herself! I would never have gotten this awesome deal if it had not been posted.

Thanks so much!

OP,
Thanks so much! Went today and bought one. My old one was so tiny and barely fit a whole chicken! This one is great!:cool1:

Thank you! My 5 qt. isn't large enough! Looks like it will be on sale thru the 14th, too.

I went last night and got mine- I am using it today! Thanks for the heads up. I am making kale soup today- yummy....

Thanks again!

For those of you who have been looking for a crock pot, a new crock pot, or a bigger crock pot… JC Penney’s has an awesome deal on one this week! I have been looking for a 6 qt since my 5 qt struggles to hold some of the soup recipes so today when I saw that Penney’s had a 7qt for $19.99 I was pretty excited and sent my husband out in the negative temperatures to pick up one. I thought I would pass this on to anyone who may be in the market for one. I use my crock pot more than my stove/oven. It rivals my microwave for usage! (The only drawback is that it only comes in stainless/black. Does not match my white kitchen.. but maybe you don’t care about this...)

Is the inside removable? I like to put my leftovers in the fridge without transferrig to another dish. It doesn't say, but that's a great looking crock pot. I plan to purchase if the liner is removable, Thanks!

Yes it is... mine has been in the dishwasher twice now... At first I did not think it was going to fit, so I tried to get a new dishwasher out of it :rotfl: -- but DH got it in there...:sad2:

I have a question. Do you leave the crock pot on while at work or errands? I am so worried about the risk of fire that I never use it unless I am home.
I made something in it a couple weeks ago that was pretty good.
Pork roast, onions, carrots, small potatoes and apple cut into chuncks and cooked in 1/2 jug of apple cider. It came out tasty and moist.

Yes, when I worked outside the home I did leave it on while I was at work. I always made sure it was away from paper, curtains, etc. I would just pray our house was safe. I usually do not run it overnight though (only a few occasions). I have heard fire safety things say not to run your dryer, I have not heard them say not to run crock pots. Now, that being said, I am sure that people have had mishaps with them and I am not 100% comfortable with it myself. You just have to pray!

I have a question...how did the lid fit on everyone's new crock pot? I used mine today for pork chops, and while they came out ok, the lid did not fir correctly and the pork chops dried out quite a bit. I think I am goin to box it back up and try to exchange it. Did not realize the lid didn't fit right till after the meat was already in. At that point, I figured it was worth a shot.

I'm hoping this isn't a case of "you get what you pay for." I was so excited too!:sad2:

I noticed that the crock itself has little divots in it that are evenly spaced therefor I thought they were intentional. I know my other crock pot has an odd shape to the lid and we felt that was intentional after we saw this one. I made soup yesterday and it came out ok, but I have not tried meat yet. I would exchange it if you feel it is not fitting the way it should. I am going to have to try meat in it next and see how that does. I think I will try that tomorrow... If you do exchange it, let us know if that was just a bad one or if you are having this issue with them all... I don't want dried out meat (I may just have to cook meat in my old one... I need to keep this big one for my soups that don't fit in my old one). I am sorry your experience has not been the best. I have to say that I was quite stuck on the original Rival brand and I struggled with buying this one because it was not a Rival...

and pick me up this crockpot! Thanx - think it will come in handy when i have company over.

Question, did anyone ever make "steak" in a crockpot - like Skirt steak or Flank steak?

I noticed the "divots" as well, but my lid was not fitting on either end, and let out a lot of steam. I will not buy another, and just return mine unless they let me unbox it and look at how the lid fits. Will let you know what I find out.
