Awesome Air Tran Fare

Southwest does seem like a great alternative to flying an airline with baggage costs -- but unfortunately no Southwest in Milwaukee. I'd fly out of Chicago if I didn't have 3 kids with me. My goal is to pay for the airfare out of the vacation budget and all the "extras" (baggage costs, seat assignments) out of my personal budget. That way the "extras" don't count in my mind.

I hear you. Sorry you can't do SW. Best of luck and have fun!

A question for those of you who've used Airtran before. As I understand, this is kinda like a 'charter' service, where flights might be canceled if planes aren't full. Anyone out there have a good/bad/indifferent experience? Out of Rochester NY they've got a 160 fare listed for our travel dates this summer. I love JetBlue, but if I can save $500 dollars, I'm gonna do it:goodvibes .

It is not really a charter service. While I guess they could cancel a flight if it isn't full like SkyBus used to do, that has never been our experience. Most flights we have been on have been full.

Exactly my sentiments cancelling a flight could happen on any airline especially in this economy! I think the only way would be if at least half the flight isn't full and that wouldn't just be airtran that would be any carrieer! But during the summer you are probably a lil safer than now since travel traffic is at a high then! :thumbsup2

We normally fly out of Dulles near DC, but the JetBlue rate double over a weekend and brought the airfare way out of our budget. I could not find any cheaper airfare UNTIL DH suggested that we fly out of BWI.:cool2:

I was able to book Southwest for $54 one way for a total of $516.80 for our airfare. We are going to stay at my grammy's the night before since she only lives about an hour and a half from BWI.:goodvibes :thumbsup2

Do you remember when you booked -- I guess I'm asking about when the rates dropped?

My heart is beating in excitement for seeing those dropped fares. Keeping my fingers crossed!!
