Awareness bracelets.

I think you should still post your idea - a green DIS bracelet would be cool if 100% of the profits were going to support a charity. You could probably never get everyone here to decide what charity...

Actually, I can easily think of a charity that we could probably all get behind. Isn't there a charity out there that has, as it's mission, sending sick (usually terminal) kids to Disney, and paying for everything ? For some reason, the name of the charity has slipped my mind (anybody got an alzheimer's bracelet? ;) ), but it's not the make-a-wish foundation that I'm talking about. This one is designed specifically to send kids to Disney World.

Anybody know what charity it is I'm talking about ?

(ETA: Forgot to mention...we all have "Livestrong" bracelets, bought from the website, and DW has a breast cancer bracelet that she wears and bought at a fundraiser.)

Everyone in our family wears one. We are supporting the Foundation for Fighting Blindness. My daughter has a disease called Cone Dystrophy.

I wear the pink one for breast cancer!

DS(9) wants a LiveStrong wristband, but I don't want to buy 10 of them from laf.com I want to make sure the money goes to the right people though. Where can I buy a single (real) LiveStrong wristband?
If there's a Niketown, nikewomen, or Discovery Channel store near you, they sell single LIVESTRONG wristbands for $1 each.

Give Kids the World or Make a Wish Foundation....

I would definitely support that!

I wear the original yellow LiveStrong bracelet. DD5 wears a small size one (not sure if it's child size or Build-a-Bear size, but it fits her.) DD12 has a wide variety of different colors, but I haven't seen her wear any of them lately.

I have a faint tan line on my arm from where apparently my LiveStrong bracelet was sitting one day when I was in the sun. It's right at the point where my arm gets too wide for the bracelet to slide up any farther.

Edit: DD had an idea (apparantly after Papa Deuce, although we hadn't seen this thread before) for lime green DIS Strong bracelets. I pursued it for a short time, but didn't get enough interest to warrant the minimum order and the time and effort it would take to administer it.

Here's the thread we started about DD's idea:

That's the one !!! Hey, this being a Disney community, I would imagine we could probably all get behind that one, right ?

I have a bunch of 'em...the Live Strong one, a breast cancer one, and We Are Marquette one, a University of Wisconsin one, and one for a local sports team. The only one I ever wear anymore is the Live Strong one.

I don't wear any, just because I don't like their look (they look like cheap plastic and like something I would have collected and worn in Jr High). But I have one for "Return To Flight" for the Space Shuttle, and I support the idea for those where the profits go to charity.

I wear the army green USO Support Our Troops. Put in on Thanksgiving Day 2004 and it hasn't left my arm since.

I also wear a white one that says EXCELLENCE. I have no idea what it stands for or if it supports any charity. My daughter gave it to me for Mother's Day. She said it explained how she felt about me. That is why I wear it and I haven't taken it off either.

I bought a breast cancer education and research bracelet. I don't think that they are gimicky at all, because the money goes for a good cause that I believe in.

Don't wear them because of the material they are made of. I break out from it. Tried one and within minutes I had problems. One of my daughters wears it now.

donate_life_bracelet.jpg

The other side is in English it says Donate Life

I wear this one my friend gave it to me, her husband needs a liver transplant.

I also have a Cubs Believe, but I don't wear it.

I just bought my first one, from AVON. Its blue and it says: SPEAK OUT and its for Domestic Violence. :guilty: Being a survivor of that, I had to have it. Would LOVE a Lifestrong bracelet but cannot find it ANYWHERE! :confused3

We have over a 100 of various ones. My DS collects them and wears them from time to time.

I have a red one that I got at Chili's for donating to St. Jude's Children's hospital.

I would never wear one that didn't benefit a charity or help people in some way.

I wear teal for ovarian cancer. Actually I have peritoneal cancer but if I still had ovaries it would be ovarian cancer. Sometimes I get irritated with all the focus on breast cancer but then I think, cancer is cancer it doesn't matter where it is.

I wear one for the hospital I work for-Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta. Of all things, they're lime green and their logo is "One to Grow On". Basically, each dollar donated is one dollar that helps us grow. We are totally not for profit and provided over $78 million dollars of free medical care in 2004. No child is turned away for families inability to pay...no matter what. If anyone is looking for a great cause to donate to, please check it out www.choa.org. :goodvibes

I wear a black one that says "Continue the Legend" and benefits the Dale Earnhardt Foundation. The Dale Earnhardt Foundation provides funding for education, programs for children, and environment/wildlife conservation.

Dale Earnhardt Foundation

I wear a blue "CURE diabetes" bracelet for my son (supporting Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). I like the idea that my little bit of money is going to find a cure so he doesn't have to take shots for the rest of his life. I couldn't wear something I didn't believe in. He likes the fact that I wear it, sometimes he feels all alone.....

I know so many people who wear the LiveStrong bracelet simply because it is trendy. It became a fashion accessory in our area for a while...then it died out.
