Avoid Epcot during Tri-America Triathlon?

Just read on Mouseplanet.com that the Tri-America Triathlon is scheduled to be at Disney World on Sept. 27-28. My Disney vacation begins that weekend and we were planning to go to Epcot on Sunday, Sept. 28. However, according to the schedule, the Triathlon is supposed to end in Epcot that day.

My question is "Should we avoid Epcot totally that day or just go ahead and tough it out?" I have been planning our days at Disney like crazy and now this may throw a kink in my plans. Thanks for your input.

We arrive on Friday...how busy does this add to the parks?

This information came from Disney's Wide World of Sports website after I saw reference to these events on mouseplanet.com. Actually, there are 2 events listed for that weekend--the 22nd Annual World Airline Road Races and the TriAmerica Triathlon Series Finale; however, the road race is scheduled to end at the World Wide of Sports facility.

The Triathlon listing says, "The entire 10K run will take place in and around Epcot®. The final portion of the run takes athletes around the World Showcase Lagoon, past Spaceship Earth, to finish just outside the main entrance to Epcot®." The Triathlon also affects those staying at the Contemporary as the swimming events will occur there. I copied this info directly from the website; I only wish I had known about this earlier. I guess I will just hope that the crowds won't be too bad.

I don't want to add to your stress, but I just wanted to say, we'll also be there that weekend for Disney's Coed Fall Festival Softball tournament...Even though it also takes place solely at the WWoS, it adds a large number of people that will be taking advantage of the special ticket prices for athletes...
There's about 30 teams already signed up for that event, sounds like a big sports weekend at Disney!!
