Has anyone used AVIS in Orlando recently? We usually use Dollar, but got a better rate with AVIS this time?

We've used Avis, Dollar and Nat'l and have never had a problem with any of them. We usually prefer Dollar because we are Fastlane and Silver Dollar members, but we would go with whatever onsite company had the best price.

We've used Avis and were very pleased. I got their preferred customer card.

We've used Dollar in the past, and we were very satisfied with their rates/service, however Dollar does charge a $5.00 per day for an additional driver, while Avis does not. CMFrannie doesn't mind driving, I think she could use a break now and then, so we're going with Avis this time. We joined Avis preferred,(similar to Dollar Fastlane), and, using a Costco discount code, we got a decent rate, ($200, for 8 days including all taxes, surcharges, fees, etc.), on a full-size car. Hope this helps!!!

I've posted on these boards before raving about Avis and how I'd never go anywhere else because of good experiences. After this past week, that is History. Avis really angered me-not to the point of "never" using them again, but I will not use them exclusively. Bad expereinces both at check in and return. T

:) Just returned from the 10/13 Disney magic Cruise, and rented Avis out of Orlando to Pt. Canaveral, and then Pt. Canaveral to Tampa. Had great experiences both times. Usually rent Alamo, because they are cheaper, but we got great rates at Avis. A HUGE plus, was that they are onsite at MCO and TPA. It is great not to have to wait for a shuttle. Upgraded us free both times, and had new clean cars!!

Hi T+C. What happened? (if you don't mind sharing)I'm curious because we joined the Avis Preferred program and have reserved a car for next spring. Thanks!

Snowboarder-Here is what happened: Upon arrival, which was exactly the time i told them we'd arrive when I made the reservation in JULY, they inform me that they "have no full size cars available", but that they are "prepping some", and we'd be on our way within fifteen minutes. 35 minutes later I ask what's going on, and they told me it "wouldn't be long" It was only 5 more minutes and I was relatively happy. We get to the garage to get keys, and as I'm standing there, I counted at least 40 Buick Regals, Chevrolet Impalas, and Chevrolet Malibus-all full size cars-according to Avis, ready to go. We ended up getting a Malibu with 48 miles on it, which was nice, but I was peeved to think we waited 40 minutes, and for what?? Anyway, we've always (the past 5 trips) made the reservation in my name, and when we return the car, we switch from a credit to a debit card. The debit card is in my wifes name, a perk that she gets at work, so that we end up paying almost nothing for use of the card. The past 4 trips, no big deal, they switch cards, and we're on our way. This time, we got a big runaround with Avis employees telling us they "don't do that" My wife tells the agent. "We always do it", the Avis girl says, "Not with Avis, you don't" I can't control my mouth and tell the agent if they would take the "Damn American Express debit card to begin with, they wouldn't have to "do it". She looks at me and says she has to call for authorization. 15 minutes later, we're on our way. That's it in a nutshell, nothing real big, but irritating enough to shop around next time, regardless of rate and convenience. I used to not even check anyone else, even seeing the good deals on the DIS from Budget, National, etc-I told everyone-don't bother-AVis is the best- Not anymore. T
