Just seeking out an opinion:

We are leaving tomorrow and have two different reservations for intermediate cars: one for Avis and one for National Emerald Aisle. The Avis rental is about $20 cheaper. Any opinions on which way to go?

Also, what do you think the chance would be to upgrade to a convertible (would pay of course). And does that change your opinion.

Thanks for any advice!

I would go with Avis for the savings. Might take a few more mins. in line and you cannot pick your vehicle, BUT, Avis is great.
National is also.
As to upgrading, it will cost you, but, I am sure you can do it at either place.
Please, be considerate and cancel the reservation you are not using once you make your decision.

Definitely planning to cancel one tonight---that's why I was seeking some guidance:-)

Thanks for the quick reply!

I've used both at MCO and prefer National. The one time I used Avis on a business trip at MCO, the intermediate car was preassigned, it was way at the end of the row and it was a white Chevy Classic. (I have an Avis Preferred Card, so I didn't have to go to the counter inside the terminal, they have everything ready at the garage counter). I wasn't thrilled but I told myself I'm here on business, not vacation ;). A coworker an I used them in Rochester NY a couple weeks ago, we got a white 2 door Olds Alero.

I would go for Avis for the savings too. Plus, with National, even when you have Emerald Aisle, you run the risk of waiting just as long behind all the other National and Alamo people going through the booths to exit the garage when it's crowded.
As for convertibles, I book through Priceline and have been offered an extra-cost upgrade to a convertible at Avis. I don't remember how much it was, but it wasn't too obnoxiously expensive so it never hurts to ask. They've given us several smaller upgrades (one or two classes) for free when they're out of our car type.
