Avis shuttle from Radisson to port...

OK I did my best to find the answer without asking everyone for (I'm sure) the 1000th time...I searched but in the end it's easier to ask again!

We're staying at the Marriott by the airport (priceline) the night before our 7/18 3-night cruise. The most economical way (for us) to get from the airport to the port was to rent Avis and drop it off at the Radisson.

I have 2 questions:

(1) What time should I plan to be at the Avis Radisson location to take the shuttle to the port? I did read that they can drop you off closer than they used to after 9/11. We're not going to drop off luggage/people then return the car (we're only 3 people on a 3 night, not too much stuff). I don't need to be first in line for embarkation but I want to be close to it. I *must* get a reservation for Palo's or I will cry! And I don't mind sitting on the floor chatting with others waiting...

(2) What's the best plan for picking up the car at Avis when we return on Sunday? We're going to get the car and head to the parks. We don't go home til Monday.

THANKS :) Now I need to squeeze in another 3-day somewhere...if I could only squeeze the 7-day into a weekend I'd be set ;) If somebody figured out how to do that please let me know.

If you don't mind being a bit further back on line then plan to arrive between 10:30 and 11:00 at Avis/Radisson. Catch either the Avis or the Radisson shuttle over to the port and relax and chat!!!

Since you only have 3 people and not that much luggage, just look for the Avis/Rad shuttle at the Port when you disembark and all of you take it from there together.

I would suggest booking in advance because they do tend to run out of cars at times.

Thanks for the info mm. I already booked both cars (to and from). Cars are soooo expensive this summer. Even on priceline. Oh well. I like the flexibility and (relative) economy.

we stayed at the radisson, loved it--that is my two cents worth

convenient and nothing like waking up and looking out your window and seeing the magic!

wow!

We flew into Orlando Friday night, stayed at the airport's Hyatt, then rented at Avis and drove to Port Canaveral bright and early the next morning.

We got to the port a little after 10, dropped the car at the Radisson, and were at the ship around 10:30. We were NOT the first ones there, but we did manage to get (relatively) close to the front of the line. We were on board at just about 12:15.

BTW: The Disney folks will tell you that they don't start taking ressies at Palo until around 1. That's not always the case. I ran upstairs right after we got on board and they were already open and taking names. If they are NOT open, people will be milling about and starting to form a line. Get in it and stay in it and you will be glad you did. ;)

How do you get back to the airport in orlando when you rent a car for the ride to port?

You can book a Disney bus one way, to the airport.

They make several stops, for each airline. It's very easy, and the buses are well-marked for their destinations.

You can rent another car in Cape Canaveral after your cruise and drive it back to the airport. I have some info about this potentially money-saving option at my web site...

We rent from Avis at the Radisson at the Port when we disembark and keep the car all day to do what we want (and keep our luggage in it). We usually have a late flight on Saturday. We just drop off the car at the airport before our flight.

Just back from my DCL (6/16-6/200 and WDW vacation (6/20-27), we rented from Avis and drove over to the port and stayed at the Raddisson for the night. In the morning went down around 10:45am turned in car and took the Avis shuttle over to the Wonder and got there around 11:15am. We were close to the front of the line. There were 4 of us and alot of luggage ( I always tend to overpack). They had 2 vans going so it wasn't a long wait. There had been a security problem that morning and the Avis people said the shuttles were running a little behind but we really only waited about 10 minutes after I turned my car in. I must say that the Avis shuttle is more efficient than the Radisson. People were nearly having fist fights over who was to be going at what time on the Radisson shuttle. It was our entertainment until the Avis shuttle came. No problem getting the Avis shuttle back to the Raddison.

I have also found the Avis shuttle to be a little better. We were scheduled for the Radisson shuttle, but it because full so the Avis driver told us to go with him. He was great!!!
