Average price for hair cut/dye at the salon.

OK, some (many?) women are absolutely insane, paying such prices.

If you're married or in another LTR, you can drop the act. You've already hooked a partner and we're no longer wowed nor give a damn. And guys are well aware that you do this in a futile attempt to impress other women, not for us and not for yourselves.

$70 and up for a simple haircut??? Heck, Julie can do a much better job with his weed whacker than some full-of-himself stylist who'd charge such a ripoff price. For free yet.

My hair like anything else is for sure not to impress other women. Lol
I have one woman friend, and don’t speak to anyone else besides my husband and son, male or female.
I don’t shop to impress anyone else, style my home for anyone else.
I like to look presentable. When my grey hair is sticking out front and center, I feel drab. It feels good to have it cut, dyed, whatever else.

This is great information to know as a guy who wants to get married in the future. When the future wife wants to get a color and cut for $200+, I won’t freak out. I’ll just accept it’s the norm (and I won’t be going to get those sports game tickets that week). It’s things like this that makes me happy to be a guy who spends around $20 just for a cut (I don’t need to color yet 😬).

You got it! Yesterday when I left, my husband was like whatever it costs it costs. It’s not a daily event.
I don’t lecture Mr. Milwaukee about the need for EVERY TOOL. :rolleyes1

Only a man would think women spend $ on their hair to impress others. After 1 1/2 years without going to the salon during covid, spending 3 hours and $300+ was so worth how great I felt!

Yeah, my dad and mom are the same. I’ve always heard a happy wife is a happy life. This phrase has to have existed since caveman times. 🤣:duck:

Chicagoland. Confession that I go to a salon (Tricoci), and the cost depends on the stylist. For mine (I love their work): $60 for hair cut. I get highlights ($130) and all-over color ($75). I do try to wait 3 months between services.

I totally understand someone’s need/want to feel good through a haircut or hairstyle.:-)

I went to the same salon forever, until they changed hands and the new owners messed with the scheduling. There- about $ 100 plus tip for cut and color.

I tried a new salon for about a year or so, but the pricing was ‘flexible’, in that, I never knew the final tally until I checked out. My hair looked great, but it was too expensive. I would go every 5 weeks and my bill would be anywhere from $130 to $250 depending on what she did.

During Covid, I practiced doing my roots and now do that once or twice in between salon visits. Where I go now is basic- but the cost is only $55 for cut and color! Can’t beat that price.

Non US here with a question: why do you tip your hairdresser?

As far as my knowledge of tipping in a restaurant in the US goes, those people don't earn the minimum wage and need the tips to make a living. Does it work the same for hairdressers?
I Googled, the answer seemed to be 'because they provide a service'. So... which is it?

It’s mostly a thing for great service in trade jobs vs white collar positions. I rarely tip (except with restaurants) because I don’t do more than a basic buzz cut. I’m not cheap, but in this economy other expenses come first.

Canada here.
My sister in law (went to hairdressing school) has done my hair for years, so I never tipped her, but prior I always did.

To maintain good rapport and show appreciation. Many hairdressers, and some barbers, rent their chairs and either have to give a flat rate or a percentage of their earnings to the shop’s owner.

It is a service, and if it’s well done, and something you can’t do Why not ?

$55 for shampoo, wash, blow dry and cut. No color. Doesn't include tip. southern California but not as pricey as OC

lol funny you mention it we're fairly low key these days with haircuts. I go to great clips because all I get done is a straight trim. It's gone up in price though. My haircut last week to get 5 inches off was $18 (then tip). We used to get coupons for $7.99 haircuts. I think the price last year was like $14.99 or something. Anywho my husband every now and then goes to a place called Scissors and Scotch. It's a place where afterwards they have a small bar for you to enjoy (included in the cost of the haircut) an alcoholic drink (I think coffee is also available). He's not getting anything fancy done just a trim but between the two of us he's going to a fancy place and spending more money lol.

For many years until about mid-way through college I used to go to an in-house stylist. She charged $20-$25 (then tip) but this was in the early to mid-2000s. Back then I would get my haircut like clockwork every 5 to 6 weeks. It's been a long time since I stuck with that. My husband gets his hair cut much more frequently than I do, he hates it feeling long and this is me rolling my eyes because it's never long, it just feels that way to him. My hair on the other hand is long and I get it cut when it starts to annoy me too much getting caught in my purse, jacket, seatbelt, making it harder to sleep, etc.

My mom goes to a particular stylist for her hair color and cut I don't know how much she charges I forget but it's not as high as many of these posters are quoting.

And we tip our manicurist too.

Yesterday, after getting my hair done, I also got a manicure & pedicure.

Yesterday was an expensive day for me.

100% agree. I had the misfortune of getting the early grey gene from my mom, so I've been coloring since my mid 20s. Visible grey hair makes me feel old and blah. And it's great to treat myself every few months.

I pay $160 for a cut, base color and highlights. I am in the suburbs of Louisville, KY. I usually tip $25 on top of that.

I’d say that’s pretty average price where I live for what you got.

I paid $140 plus tip for cut and color with highlights prepandemic. Now my husband cuts my hair and I'm going gray.
