Avatar - ok for 6 year old boy?

I know McDonald's sells the toys, but, is this movie suitable for a 6 year old - thinking about going to see it today!

Rated PG-13 for intense epic battle sequences and warfare, sensuality, language and some smoking.

I would guess most of the story would go over the 6 year old's head.

I saw it last night and I would say no I will not take my 8 year old to see it- pretty bad language

I wouldn't take my 6yo. Just too much for a child, IMO.

We took our six year old daughter to see it and she liked it.

She rarely sits through movies without getting up and moving around. She sat still and watched the whole two and a half hours (minus one pee break, small bladder).

She knows those words are bad, not an issue.

I think it's all in what you think is appropriate for your kids. DH took all three kids to see it on Saturday. The 7 yo loved it. He knows it's all make believe tho. He's also seen both transformers movies and newest star trek as well as all the x-men movies.

No. They also had Transformers toys and over the years there have been a few others.

I'm constantly irritated that they do this, and it isn't just Mcdonalds. Burger King is guilty of it too from time to time (G.I. Joe, Iron Man).

MY DS saw Lord of the Rings when he was 4 and became a big fan of all of the LOTR movies from then on. I would compare Avatar to that type of movie -- violent but make believe. I am somewhat picky about what I let the kids see and don't allow PG 13 for the nudity & dirty language kind of stuff, but the pretend stuff like this, the Harry Potter movies, Transformers, Spiderman (DS saw that one at 3 years old), I think are OK.

The question is, will your 6 yo sit through a 3 hour movie?
