I don't know, does anyone else besides me think that Disney got snowed on this: http://www.msn.com/en-us/movies/new...ed-until-late-2017/ar-AA89swS?ocid=ansentap11

By the time the movie finally comes out, it will be 7-8 years since the original. I don't think a lot of kids will even know what it is or be interested. I'm not even sure adults will be by then :confused3

Also, how will they ever be able to have any characters? The characters are 9 feet tall. I guess a lot of stilt walkers :rotfl2:

There are plenty of attractions that were opened WAY after the movie was released.

How many kids know Song of the South?

If Disney does it right, the themeing of the land should knock everyone's socks off and no one should care when the movie was released.

So this puts the timing of the movie around the same time as the opening of Avatar in AK? Sounds like good timing to me.

I wasn't a die-hard fan of the first Avatar movie but I enjoyed it. I've been giving Disney the benefit of the doubt since they announced Avatarland but over time I think I've changed camps. I agree that, even now in 2015, it's way past its relevance. The Star Wars franchise has stood the test of time so I think it's definitely earned a bigger presence in the parks. The problem is that Disney got onboard for this MASSIVE Avatar project before it proved itself to be a lasting success. That's quite an expensive gamble.

AK is my favorite park but I have this horrible feeling that they're perverting it beyond recognition. :crazy2:

I quite enjoyed the first one and I will definitely check this one out. But I agree with you that it feels very late. Buzz is over :/

The only problem I see with this one Is that The next Star Wars movie will be coming out at the same time, that could lead to a bad box office for avatar if it's not as good as the last one.

You're still going this route, huh?

Yep, attractions should stand on their own merits. It should have nothing to do with what movie it's based on or when the movie was released.

Personally, I only got through the first 30 minutes of Avatar, but I'm looking forward to a land that looks like Pandora.

To gain a built in audience.

There are people that will go to an attraction because of the IP it's based on.

Unfortunately that seems to be the case today.

Go back to the Orlando campus' heyday and we see a stunning lack of material based on movies. I kinda wish they would have continued that mode of thinking.

My guess is that they'll be far apart from one another. Cameron's arrogant, but he isn't stupid. I'm guessing Star Wars will be out in December and Avatar will be a summer release.

I wonder if they'll release the first movie to be streamed on Netflix or something like that before the opening of avatar land.

I think it is silly to have another delay on this movie, however, Terminator 2 came out 7 years after the original. As did Aliens, and both did better in the box office than the originals.

Cameron will release when he is ready, and not a minute before. It is his ego that is dictating this project, not Disney... not the public's opinion.

My prediction: the folks who liked the first one will be happy with the sequel... it will be beautiful and visually stunning and the storyline will work. The folks who didn't like the first one (LOL I think there are a couple on this thread)... well the sequel will not change their feelings, and they be unimpressed. For whatever reason Avatar seems to be somewhat polarizing.

It is polarizing, but for some pretty valid reasons.

1) It seems like a 2nd place finish and slightly knee-jerk reaction to losing out on Pottermania, although that worked out much better for the consumer having it up I-4

2) Before Star Wars? It's the number one, multi-generationa,l cross-gender, (with Potter 1A) that's a slam dunk, almost impossible to mess up, IP for a Theme Park. Having 2 boys, 11 and 9, it's the big one for me. We're talking 17 and 15 by the time it might be done and they're just meh on Avatar. Some will say the Lucas agreement came after Cameron discussions. But, things like that are in the pipeline way earlier than an agreement.

3) AK getting love before DHS and no love once more for EPCOT? is big as well. Completely understand why AK is first since it's so underutilized but it's received a lotta love compared to the other 2 Parks in recent history already.

4) Avatar, while visually stunning, was pretty weak on character development and utilized a plot that's been done how many times? It just didn't resonate that much beyond the visual. Part of that is the fact that it is not an established franchise - just one movie. Let's hope there's a little more focus on plot and originality in the story in the next few. Something to latch onto beside great CGI

5) How long this thing is taking. Enough said and that's totally self inflicted

So, objectively, the polarization is justified. And it puts a lot of pressure on the Avatar project - as does DA up the road. But, that's a good thing as long as it enhances the delivery.

there you go with reason logic and actual facts...
two ways to look at this
1. messes up the synergy ol bob likes
2. helps because as the movies come out there are more movies to bring people back to the parks
