Avatar: Fire and Ash

I just saw the trailer yesterday at Disney Springs AMC IMAX…
I wish they had shown the new TRON Ares Trailer instead..
Definitely want to see TRON … not sure about AVATAR

This played the other night before a showing of Fantastic Four: First Steps. While I suppose the sequels are/will be excellent, it took so long for the first sequel to show up that I couldn't remember much of what happened in the first movie. For those who kept the faith, I do think it will be very worthwhile.

Blue Aliens may be the only $1B films this year for the MPA studios. Zootopia 2 has a shot pending the reception in Asia

Since $1B is already assumed for this, the question is will Avatar surpass Ne Zha 2 and become the highest grossing film of the year?

As of this posting Ne Zha is at just under $2B with an English Dub to have a wider release in the U.S. later this month.

I'll skip this trailer unless I see it in theaters (I do plan on going ot the re-release of Way of Water, so I probably will). I am sold on the movie already. I love Avatar!

Took me 3 times to get through the first one, and only reason I did was because we were going to see 2nd one.

Was very unimpressed.

Only movie I've ever walked out of was Avatar 2.

Really have no interest in this one but cemented it when our theater decided to only show in 3D.

Okay, let's get serious - tickets are on sale now and I made a terrible mistake last night. I snagged a ticket fod the Thursday night, but I realized that the showing was 2D - NO! Fortunately, my theater is super nice about handling that, but I had to go in person. The thing is, they don't have any 3D showings other than IMAX and, I was fairly sure that our IMAX doesn't show HFR - NO! Arrgh! Anyway, it looks like I have to drive way out to the 'burbs to see it in what they call MXT 3D. I emailed their customer service to confirm HFR on that screen and they said it does. Why is it so hard to get a good screening this time? With Way of Water, there were a lot of options and theaters capable of doing it. It's annoying, but it's just a little bit of a longer drive. Plus, this show starts at 6 PM, which is nice for a long movie on a week night.

I have seen it. Wow! I'd say it's better than Way of Water, maybe not as good as the first one. It looked amazing in 3D HFR! It's looking to do BIG numbers this weekend too. I know there are a lot of doubters, but, never count out James Cameron.

Since it was late last night, I saved the review. Below are some thoughts:

Non-Spoiler:

While it is the longest movie so far, it actually felt faster than Way of Water did, which in my opinion could be a little slow. There is more action, and cooler action - really some killer battle sequences!

The plot is indeed "more of the same" - it has some repetitive story beats, though not entirely. It's like Return of the Jedi - a little back to basics in some ways. It's not a bad thing, but some might call it out. But you know, every Star Wars or Marvel movie is basically the same in those ways. There's a cyclical nature to them, and that's okay.

Spider's journey is great - he's the breakout character. Letting him breathe the air was amazing!

The Ash Clan's leader - wow! What a villain. She's...I don't know quite how to put this here...really into fire. I mean...really. 🤨 She's great though! She brings an intensity that you can feel.

Parks reference alert - we meet the Windtraders! 🙂

It was good to see some returning villains, like Selfridge and Scoresby. I was surprised Socresby survived, though he has a robotic arm now. Selfridge is apparently the company chairman's son - explains a lot.

I do wish they would do more with Norm and Max, though they are in it a bit more than WoW. Norm clearly has a story - he's got like an earring - human form. There are still a few other Avatar drivers around too.

It was scary to see how far the "Jake Sully - Traitor to the Human Race" idea went. It's deep propoganda that has likely made it to Earth. It's disturbing - but a cool element as we get a better glimpse into the mindset.

Overall, it was another great outing to Pandora. It looked amazing too. Man, if you want to see stuff that you've never seen - yeah, this is where to see it, preferably in the biggest, fanciest theater you can get to. It's stunning!
