OK, I am not that great at visualizing problems, and I'm confused. I'm hoping someone here can explain this scenario for me?

This morning at 9am Orlando time, I called to request AKV studio, savannah view, in Jambo house. I got the first three (Dec 20, 21, 22) of 4 days I asked for. The 4th day (Dec 23) had no availability. I'm on the waitlist though :thumbsup2 But, I can't wrap my brain around the last day being unavailable. I'd get it if it was the first day but how could the last day be booked before the first day?

I can't even understand it how I wrote it. I hope someone can understand it for me?
Thank you all.

it's called walking & currently they can take up all
the rooms so there isn't one available @ the 11mos.
period.

sorry this happened to you.

Thanks for the fast reply. What does walking mean? Will I probably not get it from the waitlist? Sorry so dense, I just don't understand the ins and outs of DVC yet. Maybe I need to buy more and use more so I'll learn quicker? hee hee. Now to convince DH to get a second job so we can afford it. :rotfl:

I'm confused as well. Since you are 11 months out from Dec 20th, I don't understand how someone could book the night of Dec 23 without also booking the nights that come before it.

The only thing I can think of is that those nights were given to CRO to rent out for cash to pay for trades made by DVC members.

If someone was walking a reservation, they should still be holding the nights of Dec 20 - Dec 23 as well. The reservation system should not allow them to cancel any nights after Jan 19th while continuing to hold the nights of Dec 23rd and later since that would break the rule of booking 11 months from check in. In theory they should not be able to cancel those nights until Jan 23rd at the earliest without losing the rest of the reservation. Now whether it works this way in practice I don't know.

I agree - that's the only thing I can think of also. Very strange.

Call back tomorrow, something is not right and if you have to ask to speak to a manager.

Thanks everybody. I appreciate the help and will call tomorrow to get more info.

Please keep us posted. This seems to contradict the whole purpose of walking.

LisaS, I thought that they couldn't give rooms to CRO in advance of the 11 month window -- I thought that the minimum one-month home resort priority guarantee in our contracts prevented that.

What could be going on here? A room scheduled to be taken out of service for maintenance 11 months ahead? Two days before Christmas???

The OP was booking 4 days. That was her downfall. Anyone who booked 7, 6, or 5 day reservations that included Dec. 23 as their last day all booked this day. She booked 4 days starting on the 20th.

5 day reservation started on Jan. 19th
6 day reservation started on Jan. 18th
7 day reservation started on Jan. 17th

Plus if you booked on Jan. 16th for 7 nights it would be Dec. 16-22, but on the 17th you could call and add an extra day = Dec. 23.

Hope this makes since, but I'm sure this affected the day the OP wanted. The downfall was booking only 4 days. When you did that you were already 3 days behind most others who wanted that same day.

It does make it seem that DVD may be cheating and overloading on holding rooms for its own use during the prime Christmas time. Even if walking or other earlier reserving than you occurred, you should likely not get the situation when calling exactly 11 months that your first night is available but nights afterwards are not because those who reserved before you and got Dec 23 have to still have that first night that you are getting, Dec 20, because they could not cancel yet if walking, which means that night should also be filled if Dec 23 is.

Yeah, I just realized the idea of "holding" rooms makes sense, especially with the Candlelight Processional and the fact that Disney doesn't confirm speakers this early. For instance, I know they had Neil Patrick Harris a few years ago, and he mentioned that he was staying at AKV and loved it. I really can't see Disney saying, "Well, thanks for agreeing to narrate the Candlelight Processional, but you'll have to pick a different resort. AKV concierge villas are all sold out."

Something is not right. If we were talking about value or concierge rooms, walking reservations or just those with longer stays that started in the last 3 days could easily explain the 23rd not being available. However, I find it highly unlikely that all savanna view studios are booked.

I don't know whether DVC can give a room to CRO more than 11 months in advance or not. They have taken DVC rooms to give to VIPs in the past so it's possible that that is what is going on. As you say, it indicates that there might be times when walking doesn't get you what you want. Walking only works if the number of rooms in service doesn't decrease as you walk your reservation forward.

If the OP got shut out due to others booking earlier because they have earlier check-in dates then the initial night (Dec 20) would not be available either. There is no way I can see that the OP's scenario can occur unless there is one less room available as of Dec 23rd. That means either a reservation is already booked with a check in date of Dec 23rd (more than 11 months in advance) or a room is slated to be taken out of service on that night.

Let's use your example and assume for simplicity that Jambo House has only five Savanna View Studios in the entire resort.

Room 1 goes to to member who called on Jan. 16th for 7 nights (Dec. 16-22) but on the 17th called and add an extra day = Dec. 23.

Room 2 goes to: 7 day reservation starting on Jan. 17th

Room 3 goes to: 6 day reservation starting on Jan. 18th

Room 4 goes to: 5 day reservation starting on Jan. 19th

OP calls on Jan 20th and finds Room 5 is available for Dec 20-22 but it's already booked for Dec 23rd. How does someone have Room 5 booked for Dec 23rd (more than 11 months in advance of check in)? If they originally booked Room 5 for an earlier check in date and then cancelled all nights up to and including Dec 22nd, the reservation should not have been allowed to stand since it would violate booking 11 months from check in.

That shouldn't really make a difference. The OP got into the room exactly at the 11 month window for that room. Since she is in it on Dec 20, 21, and 22nd, she is the only one who should be able to reserve it since the 11 month window for the 23rd is not open yet.

All those other people booking longer trips would be in other rooms, not the OP's room.

I honestly don't know how this is happening, except as PP stated, it is being taken out of service.

I guess you're right after reading your POV. I would be curious how this happened. Can RCI book further out than 11 months?

No.

My theory is that the CM made a mistake or that there is still a problem with the computers. OP should call back and see if the room is available today. If not, he/she should ask to speak with a supervisor.

I agree with LisaS - no way that should have happened unless a room was taken out of DVC inventory. This far ahead of time, that's unlikely for maintenance purposes.

I doubt Disney books their CP Celebs in AKV Concierge Villas. There are far better units with greater privacy at the ends of the hotel's savanna wings. I'm sure the resort offers various private entrances and secure passageways to offer some seclusion for the celebs.

In 2005 we were upgraded from two savanna-view hotel rooms to a huge 2BR suite at the end of one of these wings. It was a fantastic room. In many ways it was nicer than the DVC villas and suggested a level of clientele who wouldn't miss the washer/dryer :rolleyes1

I'm on hold with CM Zoe right now.

OK, Zoe came back after talking with his team lead. He said someone must have called before me (200 CMs ready at 9am 11th month for calls) and gotten the 23rd. I still don't get it. It's not logical to me.

I guess it is what it is and I need to let go. I will call tomorrow about Kidani on th 23rd and just hope my waitlisted Jambo works out but not hold my breath.
