Availability of DVC rooms/reservation question (newbie!)

Hello! We are new to DVC, just signed the paperwork on Friday for Animal Kingdom Villas. Am I crazy to think that any studio rooms might open up for this December in Saratoga Springs? They gave us a free 160 points to use at SSR for signing up and we'd like to use them for our already planned trip with my parents this December. My dh called reservations on Friday and we got 3 out of the 5 nights we wanted but the only rooms available were 2 one bedrooms which is overkill for us. We really want 5 nights in a 2 bedroom (or even two studios) at SSR, Dec 14-19th 2008. Am I crazy to think that the availability will change/fluctuate like it does for regular, non DVC resort reservations? From what I read on here, it seems like DVC reservations are hard to get at any time.

Issue you are facing: December, entire month, is the highest DVC demand time of the year. Those who want rooms during that time usually call 11 months out. Possible something may open because of cancellations (the continuing great stock market crash of 2008 may cause some) but you should not assume the chances are good that will happen when reserving this close to that time period.

ahh, that makes sense, thanks for the info. Is there a place to post on here that a certain date is wanted and perhaps people can switch or post any cancellations? I know that the trade/rent has a thread regarding points and renting them but wasn't sure if there was a thread on the Dis just for reservations wanted.

There's no cancellation thread like there would be for ADRs because Member Services maintains a wait list for cancellations. There is a thread here somewhere (maybe in Mousecellaneous?) that's a running list of all the resorts/dates that people are already waitlisted for for December.

Your best bet is to call MS tomorrow and check availability for your dates and if there isn't any, get on a waitlist for your dates.
