Availability oddly changed

I have been looking at booking in December, even though it's now very doubtful that we will go. Yesterday, at the 7 month mark, I started noticing that Dec. 6 was suddenly booked (unbookable) for certain resorts and room categories. I found it odd that days after were were not affected since those who can book a week or less could have booked. Today, at 8, I was able to get what I wanted (Dec. 7-13). The 6th was not available yesterday or this morning so I was not sure what to expect. After getting my reservation confirmation, I went back to look at availability and the 6th (and the rest of the week) was open! When I booked this morning, the 6th was definitely not available.

The 7 month date itself will often become unavailable with the following dates available simply due to overlap. When previous dates start showing back up it could be a sign of walking as people release earlier dates....or it could just be that someone cancelled. If there was a pattern of that happening then it's more likely walking 7 month reservations.

I'm stalking CCV as our home resort but when I cancelled our June trip and moved it to December, the dates we wanted were totally sold out - now I've been able to book 3 of the 6 nights by randomly finding them available over the last 4 days. And to top it off, the week before our trip and the week after is totally available now where before it wasn't.

I'm just patiently waiting for others to cancel their Dec nights @ CCV so I can scoop up those last 3 nights since my 7 month window doesn't open for 10 more days!

:rolleyes1

Between people walking reservations and people who are holding home resort reservations then switching to another resort at 7 months, I think it's pretty common to have some strange things going on with availability right at the 7 month window. And with so many spring (and summer) vacations deferred, I would expect a lot more competition (and oddness) for reservations now than in other years.

You might not notice it as much normally at the less competitive resorts, but BCV and even BLT in popular seasons always have strange things going on.

Example of what is happening:

Go online at 7 months out from today, May 7 and December 7, which is during a high demand time, is not open for a room you may want but days after are. What that means is that rooms booked today included those rooms from which members are departing on December 7. However, the rooms are still shown as open Dec 8, and after, because rooms from which members are departing on Dec 8 are shown as open for that arrival date. On May 8, the rooms from which members are departing on Dec 8 open up and then are filled, but Dec 9 is still shown as open to account for rooms from which departures are occurring on Dec 9. That process can continue daily even though members are booking multiple days daily.

As to a date in that process opening up right after the 7 month window passes, that would result from changes to prior reservations being made, by walkers or otherwise just by members cancelling, switching room types or resorts, or making changes to dates. It takes only one reservation change to have the system open up a date.
