Availability at 7 months out?

I just booked a studio at SSR (our home resort) for March of 2011.
b/c of the amount of points it costs to stay there that time of year, we'd rather stay at either OKW or BWV.

We are also planning a trip for Sept 2011. Once again we'd book at SSR but are hoping to do a SV studio at AKV that trip. (We'd be happy/fine with the SSR this time of year since we wouldn't have to borrow/bank to do this)

Is it reasonable to think we'd be able to get a studio at either of those locations at the 7 month mark? I know that it can vary and that it will never be a "sure thing" but I thought maybe those of you with more experience than me might be able to shed some light on the reality of the 7 month mark.

If March is not a spring break week, should be OK - just book asap. September should be easy.

I have had very little trouble at 7 months.

In general, while there are no guarantees, you've got a very good chance of gettng what you want at exactly 7 months unless:

1) It's one of the busiest times of year - December Easter, and maybe some of the other holiday weekends

2) You want a rare room type - concierge, GV, MK-view, etc.

3) BCV and to a lesser extent BWV during food and wine.

You should have no problems with either of your trips.

Note - minor pet peve - posts using "SV" as a view type at AKV.

I think September is easier. Similar to January. I just called to book a 16 night trip in January (16-Feb.1) and I asked what was available for a studio and I was amazed that almost everything was open for that length of time (just under my 7 mo. windown)(except. Standard-BWV, Sav.ViewAK, Val.ViewAK). I wanted standard view BWV, but too many holes, so took OKW-HH. Just be flexible and have a backup plan. Decide if you want to waitlist or not too.

I've never had a problem booking OKW exactly at the 7 month point for March. My wife and son attend a conference then and they stay at OKW.

I'm sorry. I'm new here and to the dvc in general. Can I ask why? I'm a message board junkie and have tons of pet peeves of my own elsewhere so I want to avoid annoying people if possible lol

THANK YOU for all of the responses.

I really appreciate how friendly/nice/quick to respond everyone is on this board.

I'm sure it's because SV at AKV should be Savanna view, but many take it to mean "standard view" which is different at AKV. It's weird that AKV has so many view catagories. Value, Standard, Savanna, Concierge.

I meant it as SV since the point guide lists standard as just S. I thought if I said SV it would avoid annoying people lol

just my humble opinion, but I think those who may be peeved minor or otherwise with your use of SV are quite a small number here, so don't worry and let it not put you off from posting here, the majority manage not to point out their likes or dislikes regarding words or acronyms a poster may choose to use :goodvibes. And yes, you certainly are correct in that points guide does list Standard as just S and Savannah View as SV so you may have grounds for a pet peeves comment of your own :rotfl:.

:welcome: and enjoy your DVC adventures in the years to come pixiedust:

You just made me giggle at the pet peeves post of my own.

I won't let something like this keep me from posting, I just like to learn the ropes and if it was something that bothered everyone I didn't want to do it.

I can't wait to start my dvc adventures!

Your chances of a standard view studio at 7 months at Boardwalk in March are slim - a preferred view should be available but since you mentioned "cost of points" I'm assuming you are looking at the standard views.

Standard views at Boardwalk are about 20% of the resort. Boardwalk views are another 20% - both views are "preferred" by most people over the mis-named "preferred view." So the resort has to have a lot of availability at seven months (or you need to get lucky and get the call in between cancellation and a waitlist fill) to get a Standard View room most of the year.

Does't peeve me at all. I can usually figure out which one a person is refering to by reading the rest of the post.

Thanks for the heads up. That's pretty much what I figured. I'm more interested in OKW for that week anyway. It's our anniversary and we went to the Carribean on our honeymoon so I thought that would be a good fit.

We'll see what happens though, if we have to stay at SSR I won't be complaining.
