I used to live in Annandale VA, about 30 miles from the Northern terminus.
The first time we went it actually cost us less than parking, air fare and car rental. However, we went coach and due to a goof-up the train arrived almost six hours late on the way down. We did find it difficult to relax on the train, especially as I am sometimes considered Pooh-sized.
The next time we took a sleeper both ways and were much more comfortable.
We had a couple of times where we drove down but then took the train back home; that way we had a comfortable last moring in the park and about an hour's drive to Sanford. We did not have to worry about driving almost 900 miles after a solid week of running around.
If you will be taking it one way, you are probably much better off driving down and taking it home.
We took it both way a couple of times and really enjoyed it, we are taking it again next week....
It is much more relaxing than driving down, and if you have a car, and just have a seat, it is fairly inexpensive, the sleepers do get a lot more expensive.
They serve you dinner and breakfast, my kids love it.
