we're psyched to do this but have questions. we're planning to incorporate them into scrapbooks

do you collect them in books or on cardstock?

do you buy the books at the parks?

if you buy books at the parks, any recommended books?

what kind of pen can characters write with (do they need a chunky pen?)

what do you do with the autographs?

do you do pictures first then autographs or the other way around? does it matter?

do you put them in scrapbooks and if so do you do anything special?

TIA!!! :sunny:

This is how we collect the autographs...I buy blank 4x6 index cards and then have the characters sign those with a black sharpie pen. Some years I've actually spiral bound the index cards into three different books of around 50 cards each, that way it gives a hard surface for the characters to sign on. I turn it to the page for them so they know where to sign. When we get home I cut off the spiral binding, if it's there....then onto my scrapbook page goes the autograph, pictures of the kids with that character and anything else that might pertain to that character. Example....On Aladdin and Jasmine's page I put the autograph, the picture with Aladdin and Jasmine and then a couple pictures of the show that we saw with Aladdin. Make sense? We've done this on three trips to Disneyland and look forward to collecting more autographs at Disneyworld in 10 days!

Hi. I usually try to make the autograph books for DD and DS and any cousins that go with us. I've used small sized scrapbooks and personalized it by putting the child's first name on the front and stickers of his/her favorite
character(s).

Then on each right side page I put a small sticker or picture of the most popular characters in the corner of the page leaving a lot of room for them to sign. When we see a character I flip to "their" page and have them sign. The characters have, at times, made a big deal about their sticker/page especially when it is on the cover. Minnie showed Mickey how her pic was on the cover of my DD's book and his wasn't. Now that my kids (and their cousins) are older, they help with the books. My DS leaves out the princesses now as he is not as interested in their pic or autograph (I know, give him a few yrs and he will be drooling over them ;) )

To scrapbook the autographs and the pics taken, I tear apart the autograph book and mount the autograph and the pic on the same page.

Other times, the kids have bought books and had characters sign the "Disney" ones. The pages are somewhat thin and sometimes the characters sign on the back of someone else's. When that happens, I've taken the signature of the character that is harder to get, or my kids didn't have previously, and use that in the scrapbook, trying not to worry about the signature on the back.

Most of the characters sign the books first, then pose for a pic. I take pics during the process as some of my favorite pics are of the characters "talking" with my kids.

Also, we take a felt tip pen. Seems easier for some of the characters to handle. Had taken sharpies at one point, but heard they can mark up the costumes. I use a special scrapbook marker that dries quickly. The brand name is "Slick Writer".

Sorry this is so lengthy. Hope it helped.

They do have books with a place for pictures to go with the signatures at the parks. We do these because the kids love to look at them over and over. They don't hold as much as the plain paper ones do though.

We just got back last. We weren't really doing a scrapbook.. so this is what we got:

In disney there is a smaller blue rectangular book (characters on the front) that some of the kids in our group got, with plain sheets of white paper for them to sign.

What I bought for my son was a larger, more square shaped (pink with princesses or gold with characters) book with a lot less pages. On on side is room to sign on the other side is a plastic insert to put a picture in. What I did was one signature to a page, and I'll be putting a picture of him and that character on that page. We ended up needing two books. I think that he'll love having the signatures with the pictures.

It was always sign, then pose!!
They sell both books in just about ALL the stores down there!!
If you need anything else, let me know.

I made a sort of autograph book out of card stock, done so that I could take it apart when we got home and I could use it for scrapbooking. When we would go up to the characters, I would have them sign the book first, and then do the picture. I had several different colored sharpie markers that I would hand to them for signing the pages. When I scrapbook the pages, I put the pictures and autographs all on the same page.

We are going in a few weeks and I am definately a scrapper (I actually own a scrapbook store!) and I made a book, however, I will be tearing it apart once we get home. I used a spiral bound "scrapbook" that has nice thick cardstock pages and I decorated the cover. I will have each character sign a page and when we get home, I will put the autograph on the layout with pictures of them getting the autograph.

If you do end up wanting one of the Disney licenced autograph books, they are very nice. The paper is deciently thick, and the cover is very durable. One tip would be to buy the books at your local Disney Store or online, as they are much cheeper than if you where to buy the exact same one at Disney World. :earsboy:
