I read somewhere about taking autograph books for the characters to sign. I remember reading about bringing a large marker so they can grasp it easier....however I'm having a hard time figuring out what kind of book to buy and where to buy it.

Any suggestions of what works and what doesn't?

Thanks!

We used sharpie markers for the characters to use. When we went to WDW we bought autographs book there fairly cheap. But for our Disneyland trips I made the kiddos books.
Also ebay sells some different kinds.

I get my autograph album from Creativememories.com, they have a disney 8x8album.They are on the expensive side(compared to buying one in the park) but you can have the character sign a page and then on the next page you can paste the picture you take with the character on it! My albums have turned out cute and my kids LOVE going through them and seeing themselves with the character and the autograph! Good luck :) Oh and we have used regular pens for the autograph but the thicker the ink the better! :)

I made my DD's. I bought a 4x6 2 ring index card binder. Cut cardstock to size and used a hole punch to fit the rings. Made a cover sheet for front using paper and stickers. After a character signs, I just pop it to the bottom so the top is always clean, no pages for them to turn and no signing on front/back. Ariel made a huge fuss over it.

I also have a Jr. encyclopedia of animated characters. We have then sign their page with a sharpie. Snow White sat down in the middle of the restaurant, put DD on her lap and read part of the page to her. The furry characters made a big fuss over seeing themselves in the book. Made for some good interaction.

I just bought one in our resort gift shop along with a thick pen and it worked fine for us.

But I do wish I had one with space for a photo on one side and the autograph on the other. It'd be fun to have a copy of the photos with the autographs.

They had these at the gift shops too. I don't know if they are the same as creative memories but it is the same concept. I believe they were $9.95. I had made autograph books for my kids but after seeing these I really wish that I would have just purchased one.

I go to a scrapbook store, Michaels, or Joanns and buy a precut book of 4"x6" photo mats in solid bright colors. I punch a hole in the corner of each one and put them on a large metal ring. I put this and a super large sharpie pen (the characters really like the big pen, much easier to hold) in a large ziploc bag to store and protect from the elements. Then, when I we get home I can put the signed photo mat next to the picture of my daughter with that particular character in the scrapbook. It's easier than toting a small (or large!) scrapbook and I can crop around the autograph if needed. Plus my daughter enjoys picking out which color photo mat she wants the character to sign!

I'm going to look for those. They sound just what I'm looking for as long as they are still small. I'm surprising DD9 with a Mother/Daughter trip so we were going to get a few more autographs in November.

I did a similar thing, only I used white 4x6 unruled index cards. I made the cover on the computer (scrapvillage.com) has some font downloads, made the cover with the dates were were going to be in WDW. But then I took it to office max (Kinkos, staples, where ever) to get it spiral bound. I even left pages for journaling at the front. After each character signed it, we just flipped to the next page and had it ready for the next character. When we got home we taped the picture of DS with each character. We're still looking at the book 2 years later. I think it was pretty cheap too - maybe $3.00 for the binding and whatever index cards you want.

And, we kept it in a quart ziploc with the permanent markers I used.

You can also buy Sketch books at any craft store. THat is what we did on our last trip. They are spiral bound and you can buy the size you prefer. I think our size was about 6x8 (not sure on the size). You get them in the Art Supplies Section of the store.

Anyhoo- it was perfect. It had a hard back which helped the characters to sign, enough space that they would draw and doodle with their name and plus it is acid-free so that you can rip out and make a scrapbook with them. I found that most characters will doodle and draw and fill up the space.

Tip: Make sure you hand the charcters the book already flipped to were they need to sign- otherwise they might write on the back of another autograph.

We will take 2 books this time- we actually filled entire book plus some extras. We used a big flat sharpie pen. When home I removed pages from book and made a 8x8 scrapbook. Picture of DD and the characters on the left and autograph on the right. It is REALLY a nice way to remember our autographs.

Plus these sketch books are usually under $5.:goodvibes

We take Sharpie Click-Its in various colors. (This time we need to take a green one as well since Peter Pan will only write with a green pen.)

As for autograph books, last trip we used regular Disney autograph books, but this time around I am taking only one 7 x 7 scrap book and lots of extra pages with us. That way I can scrap book the pictures of the kids with the characters right with their autographs. :thumbsup2

check ebay for cheap, Disney themed autograph books...they're basically small spiral notebooks, w/dis pics inside. very cute, compact and CHEAP!
