Auto train tip amd question

for some reason the search button is grayed out on my iPad so I cannot find the auto train thread.

I booked the auto train online rather than by calling an agent with 2 roommates. I needed to call in to change a passenger and discovered that the pre assigned rooms were 3 cars apart. She managed to get us next to each other, and also got the last upper level roommates. This was in May for a July trip. We are traveling with our 20 year old dd and her friend so different cars would not have been disastrous. But be sure to check your room assignments.

We haven't ridden since the cutbacks. I know the wine and cheese reception is done. Are there still snacks on boarding?

Do you now buy wine by the glass at dinner?

And I heard breakfast was more limited than before, which would be difficult as it was cereal, bagels and corn muffins.

Appreciate any recent reports and will post one.

No free snacks. Yes, you buy wine by the glass at dinner. Breakfast is the same, but they have done away with bananas, although some have reported having them a couple of times. I wish they'd have yogurt or oatmeal. The breakfast they serve is almost all carbs and doesn't hold us for very long. We were last onboard in December in a roomette both ways.

I do need to edit my above. When I say no free snacks, I don't think they have the snack mix and veggies in the lounge car. We don't bother to go anymore since they got rid of the wine tasting and seating is always tight. I think they keep some fruit out like apples. Since we usually go in fall or spring I just grab a cup of hot chocolate in our sleeper car.
