Has anyone ever used the auto train from Sanford to Va? What was your experience?
is it easy to get your car on and off?
Is it easy to get to 91 from va stop?
Plans have changed and mom is now driving home after our wdw holiday vacation with DS#1, do not want to drive straight to Mass. but need to get back to work.
Any advice would be appreciated.
thanks

There is an ongong thread with everything you would ever want to know (and more) about the Auto Train on this board. Go back to the forum listing, and you'll see it at the top.

To quickly answer your questions:

1) The Auto-Train staff loads and unloads your car onto the train. You enter the station, they place a magenetic number on your car, pull up and unload the items you need for the train (carry-on bag). The Auto-Train staff then takes your car and loads it into the car carriers.

2) I assume you mean I-95. The Auto Train is directly next to I-95. If coming from the North, you'll see signs for the Auto Train exit in Lorton. Just get off, make a right and head under the overpass, the station will be on your left.

It seems in past years that the earlier you book, the better the price was, but I've been checking for a while and the prices have not seemed to move that much. I think there might be some special rates available for travel in the next month or so.

If you need more info than what's posted on this board, you can check out this web site:

Hope this helps.. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!!

We've used the auto train a few times, and have enjoyed each trip.
Previously, we've had a sleeper, but this past time we booked coach seats. (saved us sooo much $$)
Coach worked just fine, actually. The seats are large and comfortable.
Dinner is included in your fare, so the deal is even better.
