Auto train pricing

My travel partner and I have been tracking auto train pricing for our trip at the end of next January. There are no value seats for the whole month, even on the day our departure date first opened up! There are some for the first half of December, but nada in January, we've even checked various dates. My friend's DH is checking daily and will book as soon as the value seats are released. They went via auto train over MLK weekend 2013 and had no trouble booking value the August before. I was under the impression value would be offers for the day the schedule opens and when they're gone they're gone. . Guess I'm wrong?
