We are leaving for Disneyland on Friday to stay through next week for the kids spring break. My DS14 is autistic. He loves King Arthur's Carousel! He loves merry-go-rounds in general, but this is his favorite. He has been talking about it for months-since the last time we were there in December. "Where are we going on March 21? Disneyland to ride King Arthur's Carousel." Well, I went on the DL website to check out the schedule for our days and guess what's under refurbishment? King Arthur's Carousel! It is closed the whole time we will be there. I tell my DS that KAC is going to be closed while we are there and he doesn't get it at first, but finally we get to that point where he understands that they are cleaning and painting it. A little while later he comes over to me and says "Mom, I have a idea. We ride Dumbo to see King Arthur's Carousel." I say "yes, that's a great idea!" And now we have the repeated monologue that we are going to ride Dumbo to see KAC! I was in shock that he came up with this on his own and verbalized it to me! It was so great! I am so glad that I found this out ahead of time, too, or we would have had definate melt down at the park! Anyway, I just thought I'd share! :)

You did not look far enough ahead. The schedule shows that it should be reopen on the 22nd of March. It is awesome that he came up with the plan. Make sure you pick up a GAC at City Hall and at DCA's Guest Relations. Sometimes it is easier to use the GAC at DLR but not always. Good luck on your trip.

Another is King Triton's Carrousel in DCA way out in the Pier area. It has otters, whales, dolphins, sealions, and seahorses for its menagerie.

I am so glad you avoided a meltdown while there :cheer2: I know how much stress that can add to your day. He did an awsome job in coming up with the idea of seeing the KAC!! :dance3:

Thanks for the info. We have AP's, so we are familiar with the GAC. He also likes King Tritons, but not the same as King Arthur.

Where did you see that it is re-opening on 3/22? I just checked again and it is closed thru 4/4.

It looks like you're right. King Arthur's is closed through 4/4. I hope your family has a wonderful trip! My 12 year old son w/Asperger's loves the train and the Monorail. We have to take several trips on those each time we visit.:)

Well done to your son! It's funny, by far my daughter's favorite ride at WDW is Cinderella's carousel (she's ASD). I guess they like the spinning...
Have a magical time!

It is not listed on the daily calendar for refurbishment after the 21st so either the calendar is wrong or you have good news.

FYI, it's not barricaded. It even has all the light on and everything. I think they are doing the work at night. I was just there last Wed. and my little one also loves the carousel, and I had to tell him the horses were "resting". It's even playing music and everything...it looks like it could start up at any time, but that's been the state of it this whole time it's been "closed". The only thing alerting you to the fact that it's closed is that it's not moving. There is also a sign at the entrance. BUT, you and your son can still get up close to the carousel to see it/hear it and take pictures. You don't NEED to ride dumbo, but that's fun too. Good for your son to figure that out, though! I have an autistic 3 year old, and that's something I can see him doing in the future.
